Paternity Leave is BS

Are you one of those people that complain about the smokers getting extra breaks? First and foremost I fucking hate smokers. Most of them don't give a shit about the people around them and 99% of them are fucking litterers. They just flick there butt wherever and don't give a shit that it's going to end up in our water system when they do that. As much as I hate smokers, I still understand why people smoke. For most smokers, smoking is a stress reliever. I don't give a shit if they take a break to go smoke. Come back in this muthafucka stress free so you don't shoot up the place.
I am. I smoke cigars should I get a 2 hour break to enjoy my stick? No. I wait to go home. My stress reliefs are beer, hunting, and grilling. Why do they get breaks to relieve stress and I dont? I should get a hunting break or hunting leave so i can save my vacation time for vacation. Or i might shoot up the place...

I understand the value in taking time off when you have an infant; get settled in, get the routine down, get the mother healed up, etc. An infant that old doesn't understand "daddy" yet. That'll take a month or so when they become more 'aware' of dad and his voice, so there really isn't this all magical bonding time that work interferes with for the man.

Now with that said, I think people misunderstand the positions that some are arguing on here. It isn't to say that people shouldn't get the time off. It's to say that they shouldn't get PAID time off. There is a huge difference here and I can understand the rub for people that may be unable to have children, or choose not to have children.

Personally I think that only the mother should get any sort of leave, after all she's the one in the hospital undergoing the ordeal. Unpaid of course, because if you are trying to have a family then you should be responsible enough to have banked enough money to save for the mother's leave. Having a child shouldn't be on the backs of someone else, it is your decision (a big one) and your life, take responsibility.

This is not true at all.

Cool story.

No, your story is cool... You obviously don't have any kids do you? If you don't believe that there's a bonding time between a father and their child then you just have no clue of what it means to be a parent.

I can understand the argument that businesses should not have to foot the bill for this. But if your argument is that being home with your child during a time when the mother should be healing is not necessary then you'd be flat out wrong.

Wow, the decrease in white people breeding mirrors the decrease in crime.

It's the social media platform causing that. In Gresham all I hear about is how you're gonna get stabbed if you're outside. And I haven't really noticed much crime around me (other than some drug type stuff). People.freak out more on twitter and Facebook and everyone gets shared shitless.

Someone said the other day gangs are taking over troutdale. Which is preposterous.

Do you even read shit on here fully without getting emotional? That is absolutely not my position. Go re-read my post dude.

Again, stop assuming you know people. I didn't say there wasn't a bonding time. PLEASE READ what people write before getting all hopped up.

I said, it takes about a month for your baby to really recognize, store, process the dad figure of the situation. It's pretty fucking self explanatory. Mothers instantly bond, they've been carrying, etc. Babies recognize their mothers breast milk smell, and they see their mother probably 80% or more of the time for the first month or more, regardless of who else stays home.

Therefor, what I said, and I'll say it again, paternal leave isn't as important as maternal leave for the first month or more of the growth process.

EDIT: and lets bring it back to what we were talking about, which was paid paternal leave and how that is unfair/discriminatory.

Try not getting more than 2 hours of congruent sleep in 6 weeks, while dealing with various injuries to your nether regions and see how you feel. And of course, during those pockets of time between feeding, changing, burping you'll need to take care of your own basic needs. So it really does take at least 2 people care for a newborn.

According to FMLA/OFLA, you can take time off to care for an immediate family member or newborn, so why not? Sick time is a benefit, just like vacation, so why are you concerned about someone using their accumulated sick time to take care of their family?

Not to speak for Blue, but I don't think he has an issue with someone using sick time. The debate is over paid leave outside of and in addition to sick time.

Exactly.

I have no problem with any unpaid leave, sick, or pto. It's like you said, the bonus paid leave that people would get over others.

And to be honest, I don't really care one way or another. I was just trying to debate the issue at hand from a different point of view. :)

I for one am in favor for grilling breaks

Which reminds me I need to pressure wash my grill and get it ready. Even covered it still looks like ass on the inside. :\
