Greg Monroe, meanwhile, is headed to play for Bayern Munich.

The game has really moved away from typical PF's though.
ya and guys like Giannis/bron/simmons/kawhi/pg all have swung up a position. we don't have a guy like Moe to help on defense against our main competition.

Zach will play PF and backup C. I expect Rodney to get a lot of minutes at PF too.

how do you see us matching up with the lakers defensively?
I think if all goes well we'll make a deadline deal to provide that answer. I'm not really worried about the Lakers, Clippers are more of a concern but not many teams are equipped to guard both Kawhi and George.

we have to do something, right? i dont think loading up with plodding bigs is the answer. Really hope we go after a Crowder/Iggy/Roco type at the deadline. let's see

In a zone.
recipe for disaster with Zach in more foul prone situations i think. lebron is a genius in snuffing that out.

Gasol is literally the only plodding big on our roster and that's only because of his age.

If we're having to depend on the 14th and 15th man to defend those guys....
youre missing my point about opportunity cost. This signing will cost us over 7-10 mil after lux tax unless we shed salary at the deadline.

Eh, Nurk isnt exactly mr quickness, I suppose I wouldnt call him plodding either, he’s just massive and takes a lot of space, for his size I guess he (was) pretty nimble.

No, I'm not missing your point. I just don't think it's a point worth being concerned about.

mobile centers ran circles around hassan last year. nurk isn't my problem.

he fell off a cliff last year

Only thing that fell off were his minutes. The metrics really didn’t. His role was minimized in San Antonio because they committed to Pöltl as their starting center, and Aldridge doubled at center on the second unit.

As long as Gasol is healthy, he should be productive as Whiteside/Nurks backup playing about 15 minutes a night.

in a vacuum, for sure. we got a good mentor for zach and he can play 5-10 juwan howard/ kaman minutes.

in the aggregate, im not as convinced it was needed. let's see.

Besides when Nurk comes back, Whiteside will be traded for Otto Porter Jr solving most of our problems.
was on trade nba just now working out that move. and a backup PG off the waivers. Perhaps this move is more of a long term one after HW is moved.

I really think that is the plan. Olshey even tried to get Porter last season. I can't see the Bulls being good enough to warrant keeping him either.

Who knows maybe between Dame, Simons, CJ, Bazemore, and Hezonja we might not need another PG.

1. i dont see him getting any meaningful minutes
2. you are who you defend. I dont know what PF in the current NBA he can defend.

Most of them? The majority of his minutes in Sacramento came at the four. He’s a great athlete and moves well laterally. He’s comfortable defending on the perimeter. His struggles come against size, specifically in the post. His offensive profile projects best at the four as well. He’s not going to be banging against any traditional center, but he will present matchup problems against most fours, especially all the undersized ones. He’s a young Aldridge. He’s 23 but he’s a raw 23 as he hasn’t been playing the sport that long, relatively speaking. Still can’t believe they got him for biggies fat ass.
