A guy who never had the goal of being wealthy, he just loved technology. In that way, he was kind of like a NW Wozniak. What he did with his money was indulge his passions, unlike many other billionaires who simply sought more wealth.

Portland wasn't his town, but he gave us the Rose Garden. Even if the team moves after 2027 (when the current lease is up), I'll be thankful for his passion for our team and his commitment to spending what it took to put a winning product on the floor. Something tells me--even if the team stays--the new ownership will penny pinch in a way we haven't seen since Larry Weinberg.

I am much more emotionally impacted by this than I should be. He's just a business man, and a team owner. A rich guy I've never met, have no connection to other than through the Blazers. Yet I'm fighting back tears. Somehow, through the prism of sport, strangers become family.

It's amazing how we'll all mourn and miss someone we've never known.

Got to say that did seem very sudden. Seems likely he had secretly been sick for a while.

That said, a co-worker in her 30s who seemed healthy two or three months ago announced 2 months ago she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and she died on Sunday.

RIP Mr. Allen thank you for all that you did for the Blazers and the rest of your Charities!

holy fuck

i know the just recently announced his cancer had returned but it must have been a lot more advanced and aggressive than expected.

a hugely sad day.

rest in peace, paul.

I am shocked and very saddened by this. This is a very sad day for both Seahawks and Blazer fans. I wish all the best to Pauls family and friends.

RIP, Paul Allen.

You kept the team together after purchasing the Blazers. I have many fond memories of our team making it to the finals twice during the early 90s. Great memories.
