As far as I am concerned, Allen kept the Blazers in Portland.

He did actually. 1080 had a guy on who worked for the Blazers between 92 and 98. He said that the team almost moved to San Diego until Paul stepped in and put his own money up for the Rose Garden. He said we came very close to losing the team.

I am shocked and completely floored by this news. I can't believe it. Thank you so much for everything you did for Portland in keeping the Trail Blazers here and for the world overall Mr. Allen.

RIP

Man! Words cannot say how deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Allen I am. Like so many of you I appreciate not just the fact that he saved Pro basketball in our beloved city, but the fact he loved the team as much as we did. That meant everything. I so wanted the Blazers to win the title, not just for us, but for him. Thank You Paul for everything you brought to rip city. Blessings to your family and the whole Trailblazers organization. I will miss you.

I don't buy that. San Diego didn't have an arena back then that was any better than the MC (their arena still is a dump).

The process of building the RG was started in 1991, with the creation of the Oregon Arena Corp, with Paul Allen being basically the guy who ran it (the OAC).

The construction of the RG was coming off two trips of the finals, the Tournament of the Americas and the NBA draft. The construction of the arena started in 93.

It might have been that the team used moving as a threat to get the city to help (the team at one time threatened to move to Vancouver Wa, but this was before Paul Allen I think). But the ball was already rolling *before* this guy started working for the team.

There is NO way that the team was "almost" moved to San Diego during the time frame that he worked for the team. Moving the team after two trips to the finals (he started in 92)? Yeah, not buying.

Like California needs a 5th team

I've been reading about him tonight. He put up 5/6 of the initial money for movie studio Dreamworks SKG.

The original company was founded following Katzenberg's resignation from the Walt Disney Company in 1994. Jeffrey Katzenberg approached Steven Spielberg and David Geffen about forming a live-action and animation film studio, which had not been done in decades due to the risk and expense. They agreed on three conditions: They would make fewer than nine movies a year, they would be free to work for other studios if they chose, and they would go home in time for dinner. They officially founded DreamWorks SKG in October 1994, with financial backing of $33 million from each of the three partners and $500 million from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.[6]

After his death, Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen said

Paul was a remarkable pioneer, a generous philanthropist and a special partner for us. SKG wouldn't have been possible for us without him.

I gotta be honest.... I'm a little scared for the future of our team. Paul was Blazers basketball. He wanted a championship more than anything. What is going to happen to the team now?
Me too.

Here's a tid bit of Paul trivia regarding the Blazers. Okay I thought of another.
1. He had an apartment built in the Rose Garden for his mom to stay in;
2. When he sold the "Blazer 1" airplane, the buyer was none other than Donald Trump.

I swear to God if Trump buys the Blazers I am going to stroke out

Just sat on the porch with my next door neighbor just talking. Grown man crying......he has the same cancer as Mr. Allen. Tough to console somebody when news like this drops.
The ten year survival rate for this disease is over 60%. That's enough to give one hope.

How long was Paul battling it?

Hodgkins in 72'

Non Hodgkins in 2009

I think he had it in 82, not 72. At least, I know he had something that is rumored to have sped up his departure from Microsoft.

By Paul Allen - October 1, 2018

I learned recently that the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that I was treated for in 2009 has returned. My team of doctors has begun treatment of the disease and I plan on fighting this aggressively.

A lot has happened in medicine since I overcame this disease in 2009. My doctors are optimistic that I will see good results from the latest therapies, as am I.

I will continue to stay involved with Vulcan, the Allen Institutes, the Seahawks and Trail Blazers, as I have in the past. I have confidence in the leadership teams to manage their ongoing operations during my treatment.

I am very grateful for the support I’ve received from my family and friends. And I’ve appreciated the support of everyone on the teams and in the broader community in the past, and count on that support now as I fight this challenge.

Go Seahawks! Go Blazers!

Until 22 months ago, Paul Allen was Vulcan CEO. Maybe because of his mortality, he then hired Bill Hilf as Vulcan CEO. Today, Hilf said

Paul thoughtfully addressed how the many institutions he founded and supported would continue after he was no longer able to lead them. This isn't the time to deal in those specifics as we focus on Paul's family. We will continue to work on furthering Paul's mission and the projects he entrusted to us. There are no changes imminent for Vulcan, the teams, the research institutes or museums.

So Allen left detailed plans. I wonder what they are.

Paul Allen would not fail to address something he fought for, keeping the Blazers in Portland, knowing that his health was failing. He wasn’t a stupid man. I fully expect that any sale will come with stipulations(at least for a prolonged period of time)on moving the team. Yes, that will eliminate some potential buyers but there are many people that have wanted to own an NBA franchise for a long time and seeing as they don’t come up for sale often, I’m sure one of them will be willing to keep the team where it is to become an owner.

I'm scared now that the new owner want's to Move the Blazers to another City
