Almost a week after giving the order to hand general manager Rich Cho his pink slip, Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen continues to vacation outside the United States. And those inside the organization closest to Allen have no idea when he is expected to return.

As far-fetched as it sounds, the Blazers fired their GM out of the blue without a replacement in mind and have no intention of beginning a search for a new front office leader anytime soon. They haven't even established a time line for when that search might commence

"The reality is what I'm telling you," team president Larry Miller said. "We didn't say, 'OK, we're going to let Rich go and we're going to jump right out and search for a GM.' That's not what we're doing. We said, 'This isn't working, we're going to move on and we're going to take our time to find the right person for the job.' We're not going to let the media or anyone else rush us into make a decision or force our process. We're going to take the time to do it right."

With a lockout on the horizon, why start paying a guy when he will almost certainly have no input on this draft and will be unable to actually do "GM-ey" things until the league opens back up for business.

This is a non-story right now.

Nailed it FAMS!

Lets just have Jonathan Givony pick our draft pick.

The draft, deciding on Greg Oden's Q.O., and wondering what do to about Andre Miller doesn't matter until July 1st?

Paul Allen is acting like a kook, IMO. What the hell is going on?

P.A. is acting like a Estranged Billionaire, what's new? I've said it once and I'll say it again no matter how many "sources" come forth we as fans will never really know what's going on. All we can do is wait, and see

I'm assuming PA has already decided on what to do with Oden/Miller, they'll just do what they always do and wait tell the last minute to pick them up, and there just gonna let Chad B run the draft. I don't see this as worry some because as it was mentioned earlier there is a possible lockout coming and there will be plenty of time to find a new GM because of that.

There's not a huge hurry, I guess, but here are several very importanrt things that need to be decided. The new GM should have input on the draft, on Greg, on Miller and Camby, on the coaching staff. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ok with a yes man or figurehead I guess?

Personally I'm not OK with a yes-man, but it appears that is the kind of person PA wants in the GM chair, so from that perspective I see no urgency to fill that role.

No, I'd say it is ok because the new GM will have input when he's hired. It's not critical that he have input before he's hired. Decisions need to get made, but decisions needed to be made last year and the year before that and so on back to 1970 and the new GM wasn't part of any of those decisions. He'll live.
