Extended 7 yrs 100 mill. Say goodbye to any reasonable deal for Cano. Would it have killed them to lock him up in advance?

Thats the baseline folks. And you know Cano will want more. Probably looking at 8 yrs at a min. Now what do you do? You let him walk, thats what, if thats what it comes to.

Less years (no more then 6) & a little more money (120M) for Cano.

I dont follow that line of thinking at all. He is hitting over .300 with power, great glove work, and the only bright spot in this mess. He is having a pretty darn good year considering what is around him. He is outperfiorming pedrioa in several areas, and has been for the last few years. His power alone will get him a better deal, if history suggests anything.

...I said "this year"...history has nothing to do with what I said.

This year he is hitting .303 with 21 HRs, 69 RBI an OPS of .910 and will probably be looking at another gold glove. He is hitting in one of the worst line ups we have witnessed in 20 years. He is also currently making 15 mill this year, which is already above the 14.2 pedrioa will be getting.

Dusty is hitting .308, 6 HRs, 57 RBI. with an OPS of .807 in a far better line up. Cano has otpaced him the last several years. Dustin is also currently making approx 10 mil.

I just dont see how you can say Cano doesnt warrant a better deal. He is simply better, even this year in a terrible line up.

try to trade him... if not that, as Rick said, only offer 6 yrs, otherwise, adios

I think we all know the yankees arent letting him walk. They certainly arent trading him if they are looking to add players like Soriano. Question is, how bad will it get? I say at a min he will get an 8 year deal. Prob in the 16-20 mill per year range. Just another bad deal when its all said and done. Hope I am wrong.

Cano also stays healthy...

That deal may come back to bite them, Cano is going to get a ton, buy he's been the picture of health and consistency.

I too hope you are wrong, but fear you aren't... what I said was what I want to happen...

I would trade Cano to Cardinals for Freeze, Carpenter and Lynn for starter. If not Cardinals, I would trade him to Texas for a package that starts with Profars and then added value obviously. Thus avoiding the long term high dollar contract that most likely won't coincide when the rest of the team is relevant again. I know they are going to give him the money, its the Yankees DNA, but I would blow it up, start a marketing campaign to educate and ease the fans base outrage, but that would require a long term plan thats deeper than we will be at 189 Million for 2014 business model... I'm against a long term contract.

Texas has Kinsler at 2nd and Beltre at 3rd. Not sure they would be the best target, althoughi have no idea when those deals are up.

Yea A-rod was the picture of health too. Long term deals are bad deals, almost ALL of the time. Even 7 years are too many, and now it stands that cano might get more. This deal Boston just did is not good news for the yankees getting a decent deal with Cano. He certainly wont take less years or money thats for sure.

I failed to explain the Texas potential. of ideally adding pieces to the trade to get Kinsler and Profars for Cano.

Dont know if we have the pieces for a trade of that magnitude. Would have to further gut the farm i would guess.

Yeah aside from the numbers he also CONSISTANTLY jogs to 1st base & doesn't even attempt to hustle into to 2nd on any ball hit in front of him.

When comparing Cano and Pedrosia there is one fact that maybe changes the view of how we look at them. In my opinion, Cano is the superior talent, they are both good, but here is the difference. Like Jeter, Pedrosia leaves it all on the field, he busts it every pitch and every play. When watching Cano, even the most dedicated Yankee fan has to say to himself, is he really trying at 100%. Cano created that image and the media glorifies it as Mr Cool, however not everyone has to have a Paul O'Niell type personality but Cano always leaving you wondering where guys like Jeter and Pedrosia don't. Thus they make great team mates and are easy to follow from a leadership stand point.

I think this aspect is overblown. Cano is a better player who plays day in and day out at a high level. Yea he is a bit of a showboat and i dont like that either, but it doesnt take his talent away. I worry more about the indrect links to roids (fair or not) and the fact that these days players get old around 32-34, not 36-37 anymore. You dont want another deal where the last SEVERAL years are terrible. 1 or 2 down years as a guy ages is acceptable but you cant keep having these deals where 1/2 the contract becomes a burdern. That looks to be where entering that kind of territory. We'll see.

Cano wants $250 mill. Cyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Robby. Trade him now and get what you can and start bulding for next year with young assets. In addition, move kuroda who every contending team will want, grandy who might get you a prospect for a team needing power and not afraid of him getting hit in his hand for the 3rd time this year. Hughes (I know I know) might get you something from an nl contender with a large ballpark. CC and tex would be nice to move also but tex hurt and CC looks so bad now no one will bite on him. We are stuck with CC, tex and a-rod(unless suspended and afterwards retires disabled) till their contracts run out. The only negative if the yankees choose to go this way is clueless cashman would be procuring the talent. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like Cano, always have, though I will admit he does appear to lack hustle at times. Pedroia is to Boston as Jeter is to the Yankees and Boston paid him accordingly. I hope Cano is retained and paid accordingly but nothing past 5 years with an optional 6 at maybe 100 plus mil. If it gets too far out of whack then let him test the free agent waters. I don't want to see this team held up like they were with A-rod & CC and simply overpay like they did with Tex.

I've always said. If you want shorter years you're going to have to overpay.

Where did you hear $250 Million???

Where did you hear $250 Million???

That was number floated by Boras earlier in the year when he was canos agent and repeated today on francessa's show. Haven't heard anything from cano camp indicating anything lower so asuming still in that range.

No matter how desperate we are, and we are desperate, That would be 10 years at 25,000,000 most likely. I'm sorry trade him to Toronto where the taxes eat him up, send him to Seatle for you know who, trade him to Japan, but don't sign him for that kind of money

That is just insane... he is not worth that at all

Go ahead and offer him the ten years at $250 million but insist that the Yankees have an opt out option after seven years. The player of course would never accept that deal because they want to still be paid ridiculously in their declining years. There's absolutely no way you can hand a guy on the other side of 30 a huge money ten year deal. I wouldn't go beyond seven years.

Heard that 200 mil figure mentioned on MLB yesterday when they were discussing the Pedroia Deal. The opinion was that Cano would test the market with LA as a potential landing place. If the Yankees were dumb enough to give him 200 mil I'm afraid that my current 58 years of fandom would go up in smoke.

The Yankees are under enough shit that they can't dig out from under without adding more on top of it.

Christ, is there anyone on this board under the retirement age?
