Just kidding.................kinda...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ap-sources-collins-tells-76ers-030809553--nba.html

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Doug Collins has told the Philadelphia 76ers he will quit as head coach following this season with a year left on his contract.

Two people with knowledge of the situation tell The Associated Press that Collins informed ownership he's not coming back for a fourth season on the bench.

The people spoke to The AP on Sunday on condition of anonymity because the Sixers and Collins had not formally announced the move.

The people told The AP that management wanted Collins to return and he was under no pressure to step down. There was no immediate word if Collins, owed $4.5 million in the last year of his contract, would remain with the franchise in some capacity.......

Collins is horrible. When has he ever been successful as a coach?

He's Nate, basically. He's a hard as who's good for a few young seasons, and then he's getting tuned out. Much like Scott Skiles. Get to broadcasting, college, or out the game.

Yeah, I'm not saying he's a great coach, was just throwing it out there. I thought this Sixers fan comment was kind of interesting, though. Might the same be said about other NBA players/coaches?

Collins might not have been the best coach, but he has/had more desire to win games then his players. The Sixers players showed no heart and very little energy. They should be embarrassed to call themselves professional NBA players. It was obvious on too many fronts that they weren't mature enough to handle situations when things didn't go there way. They all played a selfish game and that will never win at any level. Did they not think it was disrespectful to the fan base to be on the bench laughing and joking when the game was still being played and they were losing? This team sold out.

Well, I think that was RR7's point. Eventually his players tune him out.

To be honest, I think the same could be said about many NBA coaches. There's just a whole lot of mediocrity out there.

I like Stotts better than Collins. Stotts just needs some talent to work with.

You put Mike Dunlap on the Heat and they're still title contenders, you put Erik Spoelstra on the Bobcats and they're still bottom dwellers.

This is why I ask. I honestly don't know who's a good coach. How can you tell, other than the obvious ways?

Its just a matter of opinion. There's coaches that most people think suck that I happen to think are good coaches. Lawrence Frank for example.

Seriously, out of current coaches, which ones do you consider good? I'm interested in how many it is.

There are plenty of "good coaches" in the NBA. How many of them can get you to the next level? That's the question, and a lot of it depends on your roster. As Zags said, I think almost anyone could coach the Heat and they'd win. One of my biggest complaints about McMillan was his inability to adapt to what the other coach was throwing at him. I don't think we've seen enough of Stotts to know if he is capable of winning in the playoffs. With that said, I'm not 100% sold that he's good enough to take us all the way.

Collins is on meds (really). His pattern is: 1st year, the team jumps up in the standings. 2nd year, no improvement. 3rd year, he burns out screaming at players on camera (his face gets ugly), they hate him, and the GM & owner get rid of him.

His crazy intensity makes for his sarcastic quotes against opposing players and his own GM. In recent years he has learned when to quit before the pattern becomes noticeable. Pistons management gave Grant Hill the thumbs up/down, and Hill said, he's outta here.
