Phil Jackson...President? (1 Viewer)

I like how you know he's never had to negotiate with an agent in his life.

And why would the player/coach agent negotiate with the President? they deal with the GM

It's only a guess, but didn't Jackson have an agent that worked his contracts for him?

With the Vulcans running the show from the shadows, does anyone need more qualifications than a really famous face and name?

Maybe the thought would be to have Jackson as the head of all things Basketball for PA? Maybe Vulcans are out of it and if (God forbid) PA does die, his sister would have a genuine Basketball guru to run this part of the estate! What thinkest thou?

Phil Jackson was paid 10-12 million dollars a season to coach the Lakers. I think he said he was interested in the Blazers because he figures Paul Allen is the only person who is rich enough to offer him a huge salary to be in their front office. I know the Lakers sure as hell did not want him in theirs. Regardless if he would be good or not for the Blazers.......it will never happen. I think he is just curious in what PA may offer. But he would not end up taking it. He does not need the money and I just don't think he wants to work that hard anymore. Or move to Portland.

Because he's not the GM? Because we have a GM? Because he and Olshey would not get along if he kept getting in his way?

Seriously people, we've been bitching about having too many roosters in the hen house for the past few years, WHY would you want ANOTHER voice mucking things up? Don't forget, Bert Kolde is still there, Vulcan is still there, and now Olshey is there. Why would you want a guy who might cause even more problems?

We need someone who has no interest in the basketball side of things, and someone who knows how to run a fucking business successfully (because lord knows Paul Allen has no fucking clue how to run one).

Who in their right mind would not want 'Phil Jackson' meddling in? And if you are one of them, what is wrong with you?

What are you qualifying this with? He's not a GM. He's not a businessman. He has no experience in negotiating contracts or assessing talent. He coached the players that were put in front of him.

We already hired Neil Olshey, and I think he's done a pretty damn good job so far. Why are you so excited to fuck with that?

What has Phil Jackson done to show he has any talent at trading or signing free agents or anything like that? He doesn't seem like the type of guy who would be good at GM duties, I wouldn't want him meddling.

I think some of you are just in love with the idea of Phil Jackson actually becoming part of this organization. You don't care about what capacity he's brought in for, just that he's brought in. Hell, maybe they should pay him $10 million per year to sell hotdogs and beer. That would sure as shit increase attendance. I'd pay to see that.

What credentials does he have as a hot dog vendor? I think he'd be pretty bad at it.

We don't care if he's good or bad, remember? He has 12 championships and he's Phil mother fucking Jackson! He'll bring fans to the stadium!

Last I checked there weren't a whole lot of unsold seats, no?

That was when the team was winning though, I think there will be some available seating this season :devilwink:

Mj is a bigger name in Charlotte. if the team is bad the fans are not showing up regardless who is running the team.

Did you really take my post seriously when I'm talking about Phil Jackson as a hotdog vender?

I'm for it. PH knows bball and players. In any capacity, that seems like a good addition to the organization. And another thing, the blazers need to take risks. This is risky, but it could pay dividends.

Olshey offered him the coaching job, but does he really want another assistant GM, like Chad Buchannan? The Blazers probably need someone to run the business side of things, but Phil Jackson is a basketball man.

But if he he wants to be an assistant coach for home games, and help run practices etc....why not? He can help game plan and scout the other team etc...

He will want total control. The word assistant will never grace his door or desk. It will Mr. President. or nothing.

Because that might be a real turnoff for the head coach that we ultimately hire. If you were a first-time head coach like Malone or Shaw, would you want Phil Jackson leaning over your shoulder in the huddle? It would be like having your dad standing there checking on you every time you made a decision. Maybe it's just me, but I would find that extremely intimidating.
