Phil knight offers to buy blazers

why...because I think Phil will overpay to win now? What does that have to do with them not selling out the fans? The politics of deals on the table? I want Phil to buy the team but don't think current ownership is ignoring the fans at all....I think that's fabricated dislike for Jody more than anything and sure...people are free to dislike her.....what's your take on the topic? I added the reason I like Phil buying the team but that didn't change my original statement about Jody and Bert not caring about fans...you think they don't? Maybe address the topic with your own 2 cents if you find a problem with mine?

Woah, didn't mean to get you all riled up there. Just pointing out that if they hold the sale hostage and stretch it out then the moves the team makes won't be nearly as productive. That hurts the fans doesn't it?

.... They literally have to sell.

In theory the same is true of the Seahawks - but they have made no steps in that direction either. You will note that neither the NFL nor the NBA seem to care. If the trust provisions were that iron-clad, the leagues would be leaning on Jody to get it done and avoid legal entanglements. Instead, they seem just fine with Jody keeping the teams indefinitely.

I heard today that Vulcan is trying to find a way to keep the team past the selling date that's in the stipulations of the estate...to me that's not holding it hostage but weighing your options...and it won't bother me as a fan whether Jody or Phil owns it...if I had a choice I'd love to see Phil buy it but I've mentioned why..the rest is just autographs ..I'm far from riled up...just find that you were posting about my post and nothing about the topic. If I own something I'm not holding it hostage by not selling it but it is entirely possible they have other offers..I don't discount that possibility at all. I can say about Jody the same I said about Phil....hopefully for the Dame era they won't shy from the luxury tax and go all out to win...that's the fan in me talking.Jody could open the checkbook just like Phil ....I'm not assuming that's not on her radar. Fact is we don't know, it's all speculation

People are forgetting that Adam Silver already confirmed that a condition of the trust is that they have to sell.
I would assume that has nothing to do with Silver...it's for Paul Allen's trusts lawyers and board of directors to work out I'd think....Silver just approves a sale pending from what I understand. How does Paul's estate contract have any connection to Silver?

outside of the somewhat smaller screen compared to the newer arenas, moda is in terrific shape. there are arenas i've seen that are far younger in worse condition.
New owners generally like to have a shiny new arena when they buy a team. Especially if they can get the city to pay for most of it lol.

I don't have any inside information. I don't care what the Vulcans or Jody or the Blazers are saying. As long as Phil Knight doesn't die in the next two years, I expect this sale to happen. It's going to have to happen at some point. It seems to me this is the best scenario for all involved. Paul Allen's trust probably gets more than the team is worth. The Blazers get local owners who aren't afraid to spend. This makes too much sense not to go down.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Phil spruced up his original offer...him having a pro team in Portland would be great incentive for shoe endorsement clients to want to work for him in Portland. Pretty tantalizing lobby for free agents

I read that two new expansion franchises will cost 2 billion apiece so Phil could buy the Sonics or Vegas teams cheaper than the Blazers....I just want him to end up owning the Blazers...as to the numbers they are throwing around I have no idea of the details. People don't seem to also consider that Jody may want to keep the team. That's also a possibility...if she does I hope she understands that she needs to be willing to pay some luxury tax to have a dynasty here.
I don't think Jody can keep the team without significant other investors.

I do but she doesn't need to...investment group is built into her network with Vulcan...she just sold all his acreage and his properties in Hollywood for a freakin' fortune...money is Jody's last problem..she also sold his yacht and submarine..

But I don't think that money is hers. It's spelled out how she has to spend that money.

I don't know anything about any of that. My understanding is she's pretty frickin' wealthy from Paul's estate...he had no wife or children and she was his choice for his inheritance. That's a big chunk of change

I have no idea how you think it wasn't regarding the topic but okay.

Yeah, I think she's probably a billionaire, but not like the 7 or 8 billion she'd need to buy a team and convince the NBA she'd have liquidity to be a healthy franchise.

If Phil wants this to happen, it's going to happen.

Phil Knight had to find a partner too in the Dodgers owner to make the original deal...Jody already has an investment group network.

He didn't *have* to, dude is worth almost 50 billion. He CHOSE to include (at least) a 2nd party, who can bring other things to the table.

You're right, he didn't "have to" but If he wanted to choose what happens when he can't function he did...he's 85.as owner he can dictate all contingencies going ahead like keeping the team in Oregon..starting a G league in Eugene..I'd say the younger guy in his 40s was handpicked as a successor if anything..he could also have a lot of other plans for his billions than just this deal..Phil has a son and a daughter but there's no guarantee they wanted part of this. I'm sure he wants to take a big shot at winning a chip now which is exciting..who wouldn't want to be part of that swing for the fences?

I think when looking at each of their financial situations individually that the Knights will own a much bigger part of the team than a controlling share. So they're bringing in an investor with experience owning a sports franchise but Knight will definitely be able to set up contengencies like keeping the team in Portland and starting a G League team. Also, as has been mentioned a lot of times the league isn't going to have the PR nightmare again that they did with the Sonics... so the team is almost certainly staying regardless of the owner.

Very true.

Folks need to go back and re-read her response to the Phil Knight story. There was no ambiguity, no wiggle room. There was no room for for further discussion or negotian with Knight. The team is not for sale...period. The most likely scenario is that she is putting together her own investment group and will do everything she can (legally?) to turn away other potential buyers. You could make a good argument that she is violating her fiduciary duty as Trustee, but oh well.

And that can't be negotiation? I know it could be the truth but come on! This is classic negotiation, there are multiple bidders here so Jody and the Vulcans are trying to drive bids up to the level they think it will be at after the new TV deal and/or expansion. I think Knight goes really close to 3B and gets the team but we'll see.

It's funny that you believe her. I guess time will tell.
