Phil Robertson suspended for "anti-gay" remarks

Welcome to our community

I didn't read the remarks, but I do find it interesting that if whites make negative remarks about blacks, they are racist. If blacks make racist remarks about whites, they get a pass. If a non gay makes a negative remark about a ***got, er, gay person, they are to be made a leper. If a gay makes a negative remark about non-gay, they get a pass. And on and on.......

To me, hateful remarks are just that regardless of who makes them. And either everyone gets a pass (free speech) or no one does.

But that isn't how our society works anymore.

It's about punishing certain people and never anyone else.

We are to "celebrate diversity", but it only cuts one way.

Yeah..this sounds pretty radical

QT

In the profile, an unedited Robertson sounds off on what's ailing the country during a trip through the Louisiana backwoods.

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men," he tells reporter Drew Magary. "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

GLAAD rep Wilson Cruz responded to Robertson's remarks with a statement:

"Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe. He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans -- and Americans -- who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples.

"Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families.

so lets see..take all the emotional rhetoric out of the equation, and tell me which statement is more extreme..

Exactly. I'm honestly a bit concerned over how this Country have become so PC and anti Christianity in a way

Only slightly more surprising than you saying he hates gay people based on him saying they wouldn't inherit the kingdom of God.

this is classic

Nowhere does he say he hates gays

A&E knew all about "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson feelings toward gays when it hired him -- because the guy openly preached that gays were going to hell years before the series started.

Take a look at the video (above) of a 2010 sermon at Berean Bible Church in Pennsylvania ... it's pretty much your typical bible-thumping drill. Phil calls gay people shameful, perverse, heartless, faithless, senseless God haters ... destined for the burning pits of hell.

So with that backdrop ... A&E hired Robertson ... then allowed him to do an interview with GQ where it HAD to know the reporter would ask questions about his feelings toward gays ... and then when he answered honestly A&E punished Robertson.

Robertson may be misguided, but A&E is being dishonest for feigning shock about something it definitely knew all about.

no shit..and he is not singling out any one behavior, rather he lists off a litany of actions, not people, but actions that he believes are sinful..

goes something like, I dont hate you but my bible does and you arn't getting into heaven. Not even the pope follows that bullshit, leave it up to God.

Suspending a redneck for being a redneck on a redneck show.

Thats a good point, however A&E reserves the right to run their business however they see fit. I imagine with the increase popularity they get scrutinized a bit more.

he never said he hated anyone.

“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior,” he said in a statement sent to FOX411.

“My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.

"However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.

Fun story for you, donkiez.

We had a chance to visit the warehouse in Monroe a few months back. I saw first hand Phil taking pictures with two men dressed in drag and looping a boa over Phil. he smiled, shook their hands afterwards and never looked like he gave it another thought.

cool story, I have a black friend also. Does that mean Im not racist?

People always have to be upset about something. Doesn't matter what it is. They just have to be upset.

If you never said it..then your account must be hacked..

I actually think this is a publicity stunt. Look how much business Chick Fill A rolled in, when they entered into this conversation. The Duck Dynasty guys are actually very smart business men.

Probably. Wouldn't surprise me.

pfft

you can tell them, you can show them, you can explain reason and acceptance but indignant outrage is still the order of the day..

where is my indignant outrage? Im just making statements and observations. I think you have me confused with your image of me.

Hate? The only hate I saw was aimed AT the "red neck," not coming from him...

I could be way off here, but I'm guessing that my view of the impact here vs. A&E's view might be wildly divergent.

You see, I see the Venn diagram of a) people who would respond actively to calls of a GLAAD boycott and b) hardcore viewers of Duck Dynasty and/or A&E as probably not having much of an overlap. Then again, I can't believe that a media company would open themselves up to this--especially after multiple years of working with him. His testimony is not hard to find.

I remember seeing this (fictionally) in Studio 60--ironically, it was the "right-wing evangelical nutjobs" who were attempting a boycott in Sorkin's world--and in reality during the Masters with Martha Burk and the NOW protesting Augusta National and calling for a boycott. Augusta basically said "GFY, we don't need commercials", ran the tournament without them for two years, and made beaucoup money in their next contract.

Reminds me a lot of this:

Are you guys serious? He directly compares homosexual behavior with bestiality, infidelity, prostitution, greed, slander, swindling, and alcoholism.

That's a fucking dumb and hateful 'belief'.

Never heard of this guy before, but I hope he never works a job in the media again.
