A speech by President Barack Obama has NBC calling an audible on tonight’s NFL programming.
The network announced late Wednesday that its “NFL Kickoff 2011” special scheduled for 7 p.m. would air on four of its cable channels — Versus, USA, SyFy and G4 — and then be joined in-progress by NBC at which time the other networks are expected to resume their regular programming.
The special will also air on NFL Network. (The scheduling changes came too late to be reflected in the television schedule grids published in print editions of The Daily News today.)
The president’s speech to Congress about jobs is not expected to conflict with the game broadcast, scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. The speech is expected to be completed within an hour.
“NFL Kickoff 2011,” which has been extended to 90 minutes, was originally scheduled to air only on NBC but is being pre-empted there by the president’s speech, which is also scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The NFL’s first game of the 2011 regular season features the past two Super Bowl champions — Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints — in action in Green Bay, Wisc.
The special will feature musical performances by award-winning artists Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum and Maroon 5 from a stage adjacent to Lambeau Field......
