Plausible CJ trades that don't involve the Sixers?

I don't see a fit in a trade for us, but still feel like the Knicks could use CJ(and a different coach). Kemba isn't the #1 scorer coming in there they maybe hoped he would be. or 2 or 3. CJ as the 1, with Randle as their 2 would be more beneficial, IMO.
A different coach!? Thibs is the only coach that has had that benighted franchise looking anything other than abject in a decade.

yeah, but if there was ever a SG that would not fit Thibs idea of a SG it would probably be CJ

both of those guys play 100% of their minutes at PG....according to bbref
Ok, then I think CJ would make a good PG for the Knicks. Again, without having specific targets we would want from them.

It's funny how some of these trades suggest 12-man rotations and dilute the overall talent on this team.

ok...and I suppose that might work since Randle has kind of a similar playmaking role as Draymond. And, with CJ and Fournier being the starting back court we'd see just how good a defensive coach Thibs was....although I suppose it could be Kemba and CJ starting

If the Blazers had KAT and Beverly, would you trade them for CJ & Nurkic?

100%

I’ve been saying since Summer we need to package CJ and Nurkic for KAT and a guard (was thinking Rubio earlier) but I’d be happy with Beverly.

Dame / Beverly
Powell / Ant
Little / RoCo
Nance / (vet pick up)
KAT / Z

Trading CJ is addition by subtraction. At this point he’s more detrimental to the team than anything he provides. Whatever you can get for him is an added bonus.

I'm not sure I'd go quite that far and I've been trashing CJ's fit with Dame for years as well as saying he's overrated

there is this though:

now, like all of those kinds of gauges, this early in the season there is still lots of variance, game to game. And rotational patterns have a lot of influence here. But still, that doesn't shine a good light on CJ. I'm kind of surprised Little is s negative, but he's still pretty inconsistent in production, even though he consistently brings hustle

Dame would show even better, IMO, if he'd attack the paint more and shoot three's less

as far as CJ trades, I'm inclined to think he's rated much higher in the Blazer F.O. than any other NBA F.O. It was pretty clear last night why Philly wouldn't have any interest in CJ; not with Maxey and Curry playing the way they are and combining to cost 20M less. CJ's salary is outsized to his impact, and I have a hard time seeing teams that might be interested that also have assets Portland could use

His contract is a big issue. I criticized that when he signed and i had people telling me here it actually raises his value since he will be locked for more years. We should have at least saved 10M per year on that contract. 30 for his skillset is too much.

You would trade KAT to another team if you currently had him? In order to get CJ and Nurkic?

Yes. And a #1 pick.

why? Because it takes a “team” to win. And this trade would make each team (Blazers and T-wolves) better than they are now. And with Minny, they can make additional trades to enhance things. And with Portland, we have RoCo that could go.

keep Ant, and with Dame, Powell, Little, Nance and KAT you have a nucleus better than what’s out on the floor now.

it’s about balance and chemistry and we don’t have either the way Olshey has put this mess together

I still don't see how this trade makes Minny better. Care to explain what they gain and how this is enough for them to become a playoff team? They surely don't get better on offense and I don't see how they get better on defense as well.

How does it make Minnesota better and more balanced? They already have two scoring guards in Anthony Edwards and DeAngelo Russell. So you're advocating them getting rid of their elite big man in order to add a third scoring guard. That's the opposite of balance and fit, my dude.

Idea: CJ to Cleveland
Rationale: Cleveland has said they want to make the playoffs, and have shown that they're prepared to take on older players to mentor their young core (in order of importance: Mobley, Garland, Allen, then some order of Okoro, Sexton, Markkanen) because they traded for Rubio. But right now they're without both Mobley and Sexton.
(Also: CJ is a Browns fan)

Possibilities: CJ for Rubio and filler. Ideally Rubio and Okoro, but I imagine they're not ready to give up on such a high pick, but maybe Rubio + Osman + pick.
Rationale for us: Rubio has turned into a jack of all trades. He can shoot now and play off the ball, and will keep players like Nurk a lot happier than CJ would. The team as a whole would be better, both defensively and offensively
Rationale for them: sell high on Rubio and get a solid #3 to compete in the East.

Is either Osman or Okoro any good? I am not certain they are. Osman has 2 more years. If they were all ending contracts plus a pick (top 3 protected only) then I would see the logic. I don't usually care what Dame thinks about trades, but I really can't see him liking that one.

Osman isn't, dunno about Okoro (he sounds a bit like Nassir). I think Dame would recover, especially as he was the one playing "defense" when Rubio scored a record-for-any-Team USA-opponent 37 on him in the Olympics.

Well, the homies here would argue that Nurkic is awesome…a defensive wonder, while there are CJ supporters here that have favored trading Dame over CJ!

two starters + a number 1 trumps KAT for some. For me, Wolves can trade Russell in addition to KAT for CJ & Nurkic. I throw in Beverly for making salaries work.

it’s a trade that will benefit each team.

So, in other words, it doesn't benefit Minnesota at all, but people here something something.

Okay!

I just don't see CJ's value when you put him with DLo and Edwards... it makes as little or even less sense than him starting with Dame and Norm. You have to find a third team that wants CJ to make this thing work... if KAT is your dream guy to get.

When looking around the league for the teams I think CJ could make better and have something for us I find.

-Charlotte, a CJ for Hayward swap might make sense for both teams
-Indiana, CJ seems like he would fit really well in a back court with Brogdon. So CJ for Turner and Lamb would make sense for both teams but that would mean moving Nurk in a subsequent trade, which would probably make sense for Nurk.
-New Orleans, so this team has a bunch of talent that can't get it together... I realize Zion has been gone but I still think they should be doing better than they have been. I think CJ and a future firsts for Ingram would make the Pelicans better immediately and make us better too.

I don't think Houston, OKC or Orlando are looking to get better... CJ could obviously get them more wins and they have pieces that would be attractive to us but they're not making a move for a guy like CJ.

Hornets have Rozier and Ball. They don’t need a third guard.

I think Scary Terry would be better off of the bench and they don't have anyone outside of LaMelo that has the ability to get his shot whenever he wants like CJ does.

Okay!
Minny gets three more wins and our win-loss stays the same. According to the trade machine. But I see it more like addition by CJ’s deletion :)

Really, any deal where the primary pieces are CJ and a decent forward from the other team sounds good to me. Even a younger one who has some upside but isn't quite ready to start yet is fine, since Little or Nance can start instead. I'd prefer he go to the Eastern conference so we don't have to face him as much, because I think he will be a significantly better player on the right team.

I just really want to see Norm at SG.

We used to look so good with Dame next to Wes Matthews and Nic Batum. It's a damned shame we haven't been able to recreate a similar setup in all this time because of CJ.

Squandering all these years really reminds me of the Damon Stoudamire era, where we invested so much time, energy and minutes to a guy who clearly just didn't fit what we were doing. When he was finally gone it was just too late to matter.

The best time to ditch a badly fitting undersized guard was 5 years ago. The second best time is today.

Hmm. Best Blazer season since we got Dame:

I love CJ but his deficiencies are holding back what Chauncey's trying to do. Stotts's idea was: fuck it, I'm stuck with two small scorers, let's maximize them and see what happens. And maybe it would've worked if we could've had, like Draymond and Prime Scottie Pippen at forward, but... But now Chauncey wants defense and ball movement, CJ is the most glaring obstacle.

At this point I wouldn't even say I demanded a forward back. Just a great glue guy who defends, moves the ball and hits open shots. As he's new to the team, he can't complain about coming off the bench and we can slot Nas or even Snell at the starting SF (hey, it worked okay for Atlanta last year).

One of the reasons I've seen suggested for Golden State's leap since last year is that they got rid of any ball-stoppers (Oubre, Paschall) and just kept guys who would run the system. If Olshey (whom we're never getting rid of, let's just accept it) really wants Chauncey to be successful, he needs to see this and be prepared to appear to be the guy losing the best player in the deal.

Unrelatedly: can we just stop it with the KAT trades? We literally have nobody that would get KAT in return. Even Dame doesn't fit their needs or timeline.

Chauncey strikes me as a coach that will voice his opinion on players and if we should keep or trade. If he thought for example if it was better to trade a different player I think he would fight for that. Remember, his ultimate goal was to be a gm at some point.

Looking around, the number of plausible trades is TINY.
Only a few teams might have an interest, and only a subset of them have any remotely palatable trades to offer.
Knicks? Honestly there are no contracts that match up.
Cavs? They're not desperate (their core is young) and they'd probably insist we take Kevin Love. I still hold out hope for Rubio, though.
Pacers? Probably our best bet, but not particularly appealing.
Celtics? Can't trade Smart, Richardson or Schröder for a while, and probably want a better defender.
Sixers: they just aren't giving us Simmons, sorry. A couple of years ago Tobias Harris was a real possibility, but not since Curry and Maxey broke through.

Brooklyn or the Lakers might actually be interested, but neither has anyone we'd want (and seeing CJ on either would be icky).

That leaves this, and I think even CJ-haters would balk (unless they included a couple of first rounders, and why would they?)
