IIRC, in the new CBA, in an extend and trade the player is limited to 120% of his previous salary. In Markkanen's case that would mean his max starting salary in an E&T would about 20.8M. Plus, he'd be limited to 5% raises instead of the standard. Obviously, he's not going to sign something like that

his expiring salary is 18M. If he extended with Utah (without a trade), the first year max would be 140% of that amount. That's only 25M. His best bet is to get traded to a team that really wants him, then become UFA and use Bird Rights to sign a new deal. It would likely start at 40M or more. If he becomes UFA with Utah, he'd be dealing with Danny Ainge and Ainge plays hardball with free agents like him. It's doubtful any team would have 40M in cap-space and want to spend it on him

maybe I'm missing something in the CBA but it looks like Markkanen is one of those players an extension won't work for because of the 120%/140% limits and his current budget contract

edit: sorry, I hadn't caught up to the current argument about rebounding...time warp

Nobody claimed more missed shots were because of Grant or Ant. That is a point that could possibly be made, but it wasn't.

Nobody said Grant is a horrible defender. I said he's a horrible Ant is a horrible defender.

Nothing makes sense to you because you aren't having an actual conversation, but blindly lashing out at those you disagree with.
So you said Grant is horrible in a nutshell? Lol

You push a narrative on here 24/7, so it’s only natural for others to counterpoint everything you said every week in here.

maybe if you dialed it down a little bit, but most the time I’m coming across a negative comment from you when I’m scrolling through this page to read some things. Or you come to comment on someone’s thoughts so put your spin on it why we should do this and that

Largely? He played 54 of the 82 games.
No doubt he is not a good rebounder. Reminds me of Harkless but with a good 3 pt shot.
Grant is a 6'6.5" (barefoot) 210 SF. He needs to do better, but I don't expect that much more.
Thank you

I don't understand - are they saying that Ayton would be nice but it's impossible? If it were possible, would maybe the Kings be a third team? Does anyone want Randle? He's turned his career around under Thibs hasn't he?

You've counter painted nothing I have said and are making up your own things to argue against.

I said Grant is a horrible rebounder, anr you've agreed to that.

I'm not sure what else you're blathering about...

Still, playing only 54 of 82 games, he played the most minutes on the team, and from the PF spot had a lower TRB% than everyone but Thybulle and Mays. So yes, "largely" is accurate.

Speaking of Thybulle, starting the two of them together was a key problem. Thybulle is not a forward.

so then, If you go to bbref and look at Portland's on/of last season and see how the Blazers rebounded with a player on the floor vs off the floor, it was:

Murray +3.3
Camara +2.9
Ayton +1.0
Walker +0.6
Simons +0.1
Reath 0.0
Brogdon -0.2
Scoot -2.0
Sharpe -2.7
Grant -3.1
Thybulle -3.7

obviously, a lot of factors in those numbers. Whoever played with Ayton over those last 25 games would have better rebounding numbers, and Grant wasn't playing then

I think part of good defensive rebounding is solid defensive rotations and the Blazers were bad at that

You since edited it, since at first you said Grant is horrible, must have been a typo that didn't include rebounder.

Yes he is not the best rebounder for sure...either was Aldridge for large portions of his career btw...Grant was also a SF for many of his early years at times. And that's probably his best position imo. but that still doesn't outweigh all the other parts of Grant's game that is a big positive is mainly my point. I look at the big picture, you harp on one or two negatives to try to drive home your point..

I'm sure ill come around to some of your comments again next week lol..

No, I have not edited that. Nice try. You misread it in your emotional ferver.

I also don't expect more from him. That's why we need to trade him rather than trying to build with him.

It’s funny to see Sharpe and Scoot right there at the bottom with Grant lol

Now it seems UTA is saying they aint taking on salary and the Lauri trade talk maybe dead. POR should be a the top of the list for a buyer to consider.

I am all for moving Grant, but it is because of his age (in comparison to his teammates) and his contract. I was talking about rebounding only when I said I did not expect more. But he is still a good 2-way player.

If there was a 3rd team I would want it to be Utah. I like Ayton's offense a lot, so if we were to trade him it would need to be for a high-scoring forward who would fit well next to Clingan and Deni. I would consider an Ayton for the Lauri trade. (although I would prefer a Grant for Lauri package)

I agree with all of that. Lack of rebounding is my biggest concern with him as well as his age not fitting our preferred timeline.

Why are teams waiting for the extension deadline? Because it takes him out of the equation?
Markannan has more trade value to Utah if they can get him to sign an extension - but yes he'd be ineligible to trade until the February deadline.

If Markannan doesn't get an extension by that Aug8 date or whatever it is then he is worth less in a trade since he'd be an expiring contract - but he'd still be available to trade for the entire rest of the summer.

I can not believe that Markkanen would consider signing an extension, either normal or in a S&E

if it was a sign & extend, his max 1st year salary would be around 20.7M with a limitation of 5% step raises. If it was a normal extension extension, his max 1st year salary would be 24.2M. He'll probably command 35-40M 1st year as a UFA

Let's hope so because Joe isn't going to give Jerami away and especially not to the Lakers. So if Jerami goes to the Lakers we'll get at least one FRP and some guys we can flip.

Just because they were Lakers, some would prefer to flip them off before flipping them.

Could have had 1 FRP and at least one flippable guy 4 weeks ago

Maybe they aren't flippable. I would assume that they have inquired about a 3-way.
Who the Lakers want to send back is not that bad, but are they worth a first?

Anyway, we can photoshop who the opponent is and promote it to the rest of the league? Maybe change it so their uniform is .... green.

Fuck that noise. I'd rather keep him. (We're not taking Cam Reddish BACK)

IF Reddish was swapped out for Knecht? Portland gets a 1st and and recent 1st. Lakers give out only 2029 unconditional. I'm good with it.

I want Vanderbilt and I don't want anyone in that package. But who is this bozo anyway?
