You're backing the wrong horse Johnny.

I would argue that SERGIO helped Denver more than any other Blazer tonight. Turned the ball over on a 2 on 1 easy fast break, missed another lay-up (which he seems to do once or twice every night) fouled Billips on a 3 pointer giving Chauncy the opportunity for a 4 point play, and was a huge part of the 12-0 run Denver had in the 2nd quarter that put us in the hole.
 
Bayless kind of stunk tonight IMO.

That travel on the perimeter was a killer in a stretch where neither team was scoring.
 
Outside of Blake, Joel, and Aldridge, the Blazers all stunk tonight....
 
Neither Sergio nor Bayless played well, but if I had to choose one or the other to be on the floor and not play well, it would be Bayless because he's got more upside and is a bigger piece to the future of this team.

With all of that being said, Sergio has looked very good in some games. I'm not opposed to doing what Nate did tonight: put Sergio in there in the first half and see how he does, and if he struggles put Bayless in there in the second half.

I dissagree (politely)

I think you gotta pick one guy and roll him out there for a while. Bayless needs to crawl before he can walk. He needs more minutes, and I think you said it . . . he simply has more upside than Sergio.

I don't trust either of them right now, but at least there's hope for Bayless - Sergio has showm us for 3 years what has does/doesn't do - while Bayless is an unknown commodity.
 
Bayless needs some serious D League time, and Sergio needs the reins to this team.

Otherwise, we're wasting 2 very talented players and shortchanging the fans.

The Blake/Roy combo ain't gonna cut it come playoff time.

I don't know what you see in Sergio.

The only reason the Blake/Roy combo won't cut it is . . . because half of that equation is Steve Blake. And the Roy/Sergio duo won't get it done either. Neither is the PG of our future, and there's a good reason for that - they both suck. Why do you think Nate doesn't trust Sergio? He's not stable. He's not a floor general - he's a playground And-One showboating spaz.

Sergio will never be given "the reigns" to any NBA team.

He's played in 11 games this season, averaging 6.17 minutes per game, where have you been?

He's shooting 33.3%, and has 8 assists and 10 TO's.

He's been burned on defense in every game.

His best games were both in blowouts, Boston and Sac, suggesting he might make faster progress in the D league where there's more PT and less pressure.

He's one of the quickest guards I've ever seen on the offensive attack, and completely flat-footed on defense.

There has been no indication that he can, or even wants to be a PG in this league.

He's a SG, and he wants to be a SG. It's what he's good at.

The one thing he has shown beyond any doubt is he is unable to throw anything resembling an accurate alley-oop pass, and not from lack of trying.

i hate agreeing with maris but he's right. it's the backup QB syndrome, they are always the most popular guy in town until they make it in the game and everyone gets to see why they ride the pine. the guy hasn't been that good when he's gotten the chances and sergio has played much better this season. for anyone to write off either of these kids, and claim they suck is blind. the one that needs to go is blake, he's the PG that has no future on this team.

Agree except for Blake. Nobody needs to go. Things are unfolding as they should. You are one with the universe (of PGs). No less than the trees and the superstars. You have a right to post here.

Which is standard for a rookie and just goes to show he needs to develop more. He should be in the D League learning how to run a team. If he is going to be a point guard that is what he has to do. And that is what he didn't do in Summer League. He may play hard nose defense and he may be able to go to the hoop and score (something he hasn't done very much of during impress time) but he hasn't shown that he can direct a team and make his teammates better.

As for Sergio, yes, he does need to improve his defense, but he is the only true, pass first point guard the team has. He has incredible court vision, brings energy and thrives in an up-tempo game. Not exactly Nate's style. However, Sergio also needs PT to develop his game. The more time he gets, the better his game. I can't understand why so many people are so willing to give up on Sergio instead of supporting him and helping him improve his game.

As for this so called piece of shit survey, it is time to feed it to the shredder.

Bayless needs to play more minutes, b/c Sergio's TERRIBLE 'defense' is killing us. The Minute he came in last night, Chauncey started handing us our asses, and Serg started turning it over. Sergio can't hit the broad side of the barn with his ugly shot either.

So he can make a few fancy passes...

That is not enough to make him an effective player.
And, does anybody really think Rodriguez is as good a defender as Blake? Seriously???:crazy:

It is quite obvious that Bayless is far and away our best defender at the 1, and Sergio is the worst. I like defense.
 
I wouldn't be against giving Bayless Sergio's minutes. I see that happeneing by the All-star break. If we trade Sergio or if we just sit him. Bayless' upside is far greater, and what he has we need.
 
It was amazing how Chaunceys eyes lit up when Sergio came in and he started taking over the game. I started getting worried there.

I really think Sergio's lack of athleticism contributes a lot to him not being able to stay infront of people. I don't know how this can be fixed, if it can. He may be what he is.

Complete Bull Shit right here. He has played well a couple of times. Statements like this show your bias and inability to have an objective standpoint on the backup PG situation.

Can anyone see the difference in these two paragraphs? One is focused only on the bad of a player and the other only on the good of a different player.

I would agree completely. Sergio is laterally slow, and can't stay with any fast PG. It seemed like, as soon as Sergio came in, Billiups got a couple layups. That has been happening to Sergio all season.

I don't think I am biased against him for any reason, I just don't see how his flashy passing style makes up for horrendous D. If we are going to win games, a strong defending point is important. Blake is moderately good with the first unit, but the problem is that our second unit consists of poor help defenders. Other than Joel, nobody seems to be covering for anyone else when Sergio, Rudy, Outlaw, Frye/Diogu, Przy are in. That (again, other than Joel) is a VERY low defensive IQ team. Having a defensive minded guy like Bayless would help, even if he takes some time to learn how to run the squad. Personally I just want to see him drive and kick, get to the freethrow line, and play good D.

I like this idea best.

Bayless had a fairly good game except for his hesitation to shoot. He is a little like Greg in that he has not played enough and is hesitant of when to shoot and when to pass. He is defiantly getting better however. If he had made a couple of shots when he was open he would of made at least on of them likely. This would have caouse the defense to adjust freeing up the team game. He is likely one of the future anyway/

If Sergio played for Denver (every night, not just last night) - George Karl would call him Allen Iverson without the offense - empty possession after empty possession...

Bayless has played poorly. The fact that your argument is that he's played well in 'a couple games' (out of the 11 he's played in) is absurd. He hasn't earned anything. Rodriguez is better than Bayless right now. He'll earn the playing time, but he (and you) need to be patient and wait until he's better than he is right now.

No, i'm right. He hasn't played poorly in every game, which is what he was implying just to strengthen his arguement, and then ignores that Sergio is playing piss poor and compliments what he does well. It is absolutely not absurd to say Bayless has played well in a couple game out of the 11 he has played in (many of which he got 4 or less minutes which gives you a tiny sample size).

And lets not talk about "earning" minutes w/ Sergio. He was suppost to get 5-10 mpg before the year until he whined his way into 10-15 and is NOT playing well.

And as for who is better, i'd say Sergio is the better PG, but it ends there. I even think that Bayless would be a better PG out there w/ Brandon than Sergio. And when we talk about things like rebounding, defense (50% of the NBA game), scoring, etc... I'd say Bayless gets the edge. He would be able to get to the rim AND THE FREE THROW LINE, something we desparately need.

Sergio has wonderful court vision, is a great dribbler and a really nice passer, but it seems to me that what Bayless has in his game is what we need. Our Pg needs to be able to play off the ball, something Sergio doesn't do well at. I also think that w/ Rudy, if we gave hima PG who doesn't need to be ball dominant, it would let him play better and make him more than just a spot up shooter.

I think Sergio would be awesome in a system where he has more freedom, and the team is a bit more up and down and isn't as dedicated to defense. Unlike a lot of people in this forum I think he does have the potential to be a starter in this league, and actually be better than just an average starter. Sometimes though, I just don't think his game is best suited for our team. He has said this himself.

As for me being bias toward Bayless, I enjoy watching him play, but have stated many times that I think the PG rotation we have now is good, and our team was doing well, so I didn't have a problem with it. And said that Sergio is the better PG, the position they are playing for, and he has waited hsi turn. But I think that our weakness has been exposed, and that we aren't playing our best bball anymore. I think Bayless getting 5-10mpg can give us something more. I also believe that Bayless' ceiling is higher, so the reward for showing patience with him and playing him is better than that of Sergio for this team.

Either way, i'm a BLAZER fan. I am bias toward the BLAZERS. I don't care too much about the players except that I want them to ALL do well and more importantly our team to do well. I argue for Bayless because I think its better for our team, maybe not as much now as in a year or 2. But like I said, I think what he brings to the table now will benefit us.

Sorry, I watched last nights game and Sergio was fucking awful. He wasn't even passing well. His lack of offense and his terrible "o-lay" defense has done him in. Yes, Bayless was rusty. Yes, he made some ROOKIE mistakes (I.E. the travel call) but his defense was good. He was THE ONLY ONE I saw getting up in Chauncey's face. He altered that one shot that Billups took. It was good defense. He was tentative on offense though. He passed up an open three, if that's not indicative of how he feels out there, I don't know what is. You can't sit a guy all season and expect instant success. He has to be given a real shot. Let him play a few minutes. I thought his defense was solid, and I thought he did a nice job of getting to the hole. He was clearly fouled on that play. He's a rookie, he's going to make a few mistakes. I think he deserves a shot.
 
It'll be interesting to see if Nate goes with Jerryd in the second quarter tonight or stay with Sergio. I don't know what's up with Sergio, his first few years, he was quick and got to the hoop at will. And the past few games, he's just surprisingly looked slow-footed out there like everything he's doing is in slow motion.

I want Sergio to do well since he can see the floor better than anyone on the team, but his shot is getting worse and worse, he's turning the ball over and just making bad decisions out there.

All of those plays were on the offensive end. Now on the other side of the ball, although the Blazers were not scoring, the Nuggets were not scoring much themselves, in part, to the defense Bayless was putting on Billups.

I believe we will need to take our lumps with Bayless, and get him the court time. The main thing you have to look at is, he is already superior defensivly to every PG type on the team, period. Shooting and offense will come as he finds his comfort. For Portland to take another step forward as a team, they need to upgrade, and he might be the guy at PG. But you have to be ready to pay the price for a young guy to get his minutes, until he gathers himself and plays with confidence.

That's exactly right. We're not going to compete for a championship this season, so I think it's time to let him play through his mistakes. I remember the J. O'Neal saga - we were in the championship hunt and thet kept us from letting him play through mistakes b/c it could cost us games and playoff/home court position. When he did play, it was sparingly or in blowouts and he looked bad most nights. He never got any momentum or confidence here.

I don't know what Nate sees in practice, but if Bayless really is our PG of the future, what are we waiting for? Let him take his lumps this season. The longer we wait, the harder it is to b/c this young team will continue to improve.

I agree that Sergio might be better suited for another system, not ours. I'm not saying it has to be permanant, but I'd like to see Bayless given Sergio's minutes for a few weeks. See what happens. It's not like Sergio is showing improvement anyways.
 
Does anybody here see the team winning a championship with Blake or Sergio as the starting PG? Anybody?

Bueller? Ferris Bueller?
 
I really like Blake on offense as a scorer.. but his passing is barely adequate and his defense his attrocious.
