Nunez is signed through 2017??? Stewart 2016??? UGH... that sucks

Nunez IMO would be & should be used as trade bait.

...I'd like to know why the contracts of Nunez, Stewart, and Nix are "ridiculous".

^^^Stewart are both barely making the league minimum...Nix, $900K.

...IMO, they are bargains.

Triple AAA depth for emergency call up. That all that Stewart is worth. Nunez has some skills, Nix is what would be considered an adequate utility guy.

Let's also not forget that Gardner is also in the last year of his contract...

Gardner is arbitration eligible and a free agent in 2015.

Where did you see that? According to http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/al-east/new-york-yankees/ he is only under contract this year...

Neither is major league baseball player, so paying them the league minimum is overpaying them. I know you "like" Stewart (for reasons only known to you), but you have let it go. Your defense of him this season has been admirable, but misguided.

...making shit up again...some things never change.

..both players are bench/backup players who were forced into starting roles only because management could not/would not do any better for the team....find where I EVER said Stewart was a great catcher...fact is you won't...the ONLY thing I have EVER said in the defense of Stewart, is that after Cervelli went down, Stewart is/was a better option defensively than the others they tried at catcher this year.

...let me put this in a way so that my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued...you're full of shit, vette.

You went to the mat for Stewart many times this year 59 - openly stated that playing him gave the Yankees a better chance to win games, as if his menial contributions would actually amount to him being the difference as to whether they won or lost. And stating that he's a "bargain" as if him being brought back makes any sense to anyone other than you, seeing he is not fit to play in the majors. Bottom line - if Chris Stewart is on this roster next year, it will be just another sign that the Yankee brass is not serious about putting together a decent team on the field.

...you just can't help it, can you?...how many times times have you tried to put your own words in my mouth that I never said, only to have them thrown right back at you? Are you naturally devoid of reading comprehension, or is it an acquired trait?...you only see what you want to see, instead of what has actually been said.
...the search option actually works good on this board...feel free to search for the things I actually said concerning Stewart.
...yes, I did say when compared to Austin Romine, Stewart was a better option, and he was....feel free to prove me wrong. But in your world you simply choose to construe that as me saying Stewart is a great catcher or something, when I said nothing of the sort...for the umpteenth time, that's your problem, not mine.
...as far as him being "a bargain", again, like I already said, he's a backup/bench player and is being paid about what other backup catchers are paid. You're also free to show where I said Stewart should be brought back as a starter next year...I never did, but you already knew that.

...if you'll remember, we both lobbied for A. J. Piereyechart to be the Yanx' catcher...but he was not signed. It's not Stewarts fault for being at the level of mediocrity that he is, and it's not his fault that Cervelli or someone else wasn't catching...it's management's fault for having him in the starting position to begin with.

I was looking at baseball reference and it said arbitration for 2014 and free in 2015. Could be wrong. Somebody call Francesa.

...^^^ I read it the same way at BBR, messiah....he's still arby-eligible next year.

...and this is from RAB; http://riveraveblues.com/2013/01/2014-payroll-breakdown-part-one-81012/

"Arbitration-Eligible In 2014: Brett Gardner (third time), David Robertson (third time), Frankie Cervelli (first time), Chris Dickerson (first time), Ivan Nova (first time), Michael Pineda (first time), Clay Rapada (first time), Chris Stewart (first time)"

^^^ interesting... well, the two need to get their ducks lined up...

The bottom line is that the'll be a great deal of money to spend during the off season. Lets see how it's spent.

I'm not so sure they let Granderson walk, he's got flaws but is a difference maker with his bat, offers great protection in the lineup, and stays healthy, also they let Jackson go for him so I say keep the guy if the deal is within reason.

If difference maker you mean strikeout machine, then yes, I agree... 2010 (116 in 136 games) = 0.853 K/game, 2011 (169 in 156 games) = 1.083 k/game, 2012 (195 in 160 games) = 1.219 k/game, and 2013 (61 in 55 games) = 1.109 k/game. including those numbers, his career average is 0.981 k/game. Take out those years, his numbers are 0.917 k/game. 7 HR this year which if you were to calculate out to a full season would be just under 21 HR which is half the average of the previous 2 years. He's batting .234 this year, batted .232 last year (160 games), .262 in 2011 (156 games) and .247 in 2010 (136 games).

...Gardner struck out 0.875 times per game this year.

yeah... but 0.438 K/game (16 games) in 2012, 0.585 K/game (159 games) in 2011, 0.673 K/game (150 games) in 2010, 0.241 K/game (108 games) in 2009, 0.714 K/game (42 games) in 2008. Career average of 0.642 K/game... so in Gardner's worst year (this year by far) he's basically the same as Granderson's best year in pinstripes... Gardner also has 24 steals this year on a down year while Granderson has 7 (comes out to about 21 if it were a full season) on a better year in that sense... so Gardner's having a worse year and for everything other than HR & SLG, Gardner's seem better. I'm not saying there's a better option out there... but how can you expect so much in someone who strikes out so much?

Everything other than HR and SLG.... the two things that really matter for an OF IMO, Gardner was around all year while the Yankees couldn't do a thing to score runs, and yet Granderson returns to help NY get back on track to winning, mostly because he was able to protect Cano.

Fans need to get off Gardners jock, the guy is a decent player, but not a difference maker, steals are arguably meaningless in most spots, but a HR threat always changes an opposing pitchers game plan, if both players were FA's this winter one would be getting lots of interest for a nice contract (Granderson) and the other would be looking a small deals (Gardner) why is that? because Granderson is by far the more productive player because of the effect he has on an entire lineup.

u greatly overrated homeruns. getting on base is what matters. unless u r stuck in the 80s and dont know that teams now hire people to find players that get on base then i dont understand your argument. gardner's career on base percentage is almost 15 points higher than grandersons and grandersons defense sucks. if you want only home runs then granderson fits. thats what hes good at. i wouldnt want the yanks to pay granderson 10 million more a season over gardner. not anyone with a brain would either
