Chad Buchanan says teams started calling to express interest in trading for New Jersey's pick within 45 minutes of Gerald Wallace trade

I imagine someone was likely mentioned soon after that fits the criteria he laid out above.

What do you think is "Giving too much for Rondo?"

It's not so much a matter of how much Rondo is worth, as how much we would have left.

I could get very excited about Rondo, Batum and Aldridge. However, it seems we would have to give up Batum. Adridge and Rondo without any other real help seems risky. Not enough power to get the job done and a big risk that Rondo may not work out personality-wise.

It's probably moot as I don't see us getting him either way.

I'd love to add Harden to this team ... but it's never going to happen via trade.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think the Thunder can afford the kind of money that Harden is going to demand considering what they are paying Durant and Westbrook. The implications of being over the luxury tax threshold are pretty brutal and are going to get worse in future years. A trade that gave them a high draft pick for Harden would let them have four more years of a good player on a rookie scale contract.

You maybe right. Looking at Rondo; he's Boston's only bright spot. But if they could, without giving up Batum, then I think we pull the trigger immediately.

I find that really hard to believe, but if we have a shot at Parker, we should have done that all day and anyway

Here's all I could find on that rumor:
According to Jay Allen of 750 The Game (no link, just radio), the Blazers are close to sending out Andre Miller for another PG. The deal could be announced as early as tomorrow.
Who could it be? Throw out your most logical trade scenarios here and keep it locked for the latest updates!

*UPDATE*
Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld reports-

The San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers nearly completed a blockbuster trade on Wednesday afternoon, but the deal fell apart in the late stages. San Antonio was prepared to ship Tony Parker and the #29 pick to Portland in exchange for Andre Miller, Nicolas Batum and the #21 pick, but the trade died when the Spurs insisted that Richard Jefferson somehow be included in the deal. Other players would have been included in the trade to make salaries work. Talks have quieted for now, but they could pick back up tomorrow if one of the teams has a change of heart.

Wow that may have been a big blunder. Although I think Portland had their eye set on being well below the cap this summer. That deal would have knocked them out, IMO.

Teams typically are reticent to trade with division rivals ... especially when they are sending the better player (unless you are Portland trading Andre Miller for Raymond Felton)

I don't get all of this Rondo talk. Why would the Celtics ever trade him with the rest of their team being so old? Has anyone actually ever said that he is available?

Because this draft is sooo good, they could get considerably younger with their pick, two portland picks, a ton of cap room to use to grab a few free-agents. It's pretty obvious that Portland has their eye on Rondo, and we have cap room to take on Pierce and Rondo for a two pick swap.

It makes no sense if you are Ainge. They are the Celtics. Why would they trade places with us? Rondo is young. Pierce is a Hall of Famer. KG and Ray Allen are gone, so they have cap space. What they could get with our draft pick would not be as good as Rondo. Not even close.

Didn't you basically just make the case for Portland to keep it's two potential lottery picks for itself?

I think they would rather have the cap space because they are a larger market. Free-agents could sign there, knowing there is a good foundation in place and a lot of endorsements to be made. D Will may even think about it. What if they ended up with #4, #6 and #14 first rounders, 25 mil of cap space and a 25 mil TPE (Portland for Rondo and Pierce)?

They could basically sign all the players they need (fill cap room), then wait and trade part of the TPE for a veteran (12 more mil)? Very flexible, IMO.

I don't think I've ever said that, but I may have. I just see a team like Boston, more capable of landing top tier free-agents than we can. Giving up Rondo and Pierce's legacy might be worth it to them. Would it be worth it to us if we had the #5 pick (New Jersey) and the #14th pick (ours) for Pierce and Rondo?

I imagine looking for a player, if it were a trade, he'd be 26-30, and have a contract of at least 2 more years to make a deal justifiable for the team. List of possibilities, in who might be available for a good lotto pick, who might have been offered to chad already, who might fit criteria:

Rondo, granger, Iguodola, Gay, Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings, Deron, as a FA, Tony Parker.

The only one I don't like on this list is gay

You aren't getting my point. The post I quoted makes that case. The Blazers would be far better off to add two 5-10 lotto picks and sign a good free agent or two (likely not top tier guys) vs. adding an over the hill small forward and a head-case point guard who can't shoot. I know you and I know what you're thinking, you want the Blazers to be an elite team by the second week of next season, but realistically it could and probably will take this team a couple of years to right the ship; there aren't any shortcuts for a small market team.

I'm a homer, so I can't condone anything but win now. Sorry, I'm all about blazers winning now, tomorrow and forever. All I need to see is effort and I'm happy.

I'm really glad I never served under you in the Army ...

there's always shortcuts, and the easiest are trades.

Portland offers Matthews and their lotto pick to Philly for Iguodola. Philly cuts 7 or 8 million in salary and adds a lotto pick. They played well at the beginning of the year, but are not an elite team, and likely won't be as constructed. Do they do it? I dunno. I can see good reason for them to, and go forward with Jrue, Matthews, Turner, Thaddeus Young, Vucevic as their nucleus, as well as a lotto pick.

With cap space, convince Deron his best bet for winning is to join a lineup of Deron/Iguodola/Batum/Aldridge/NJ lotto pick(drummond?)

ok, /pipe dream

Rasta,

I always scratch my head at your player analysis.

I like the fact that Buchanon is actually laying out a game plan. Giving us fans atleast some hope that they really want to improve the team over the offseason.

We lost the battle and we lost the war ... but hey, we tried hard. No offense but I hate that shit.

Of course you do, your the logical one. I'm more running out with the guns a blazin! You need both of us to keep balance! :)
