Announcers always talk Mbah a Moute up as a great defender, but it seems like whenever I've ever seen him he gets lit up by whoever he's guarding.

Hack a whoever is a dumb idea; I finally understand why:

If a guy shoots 43% from the line, he's going to score as many points as a team shooting 43% over a sufficient number of shots. From a shooting perspective it's not useful.

But it gets you more possessions... But those possessions are generally slow court possessions, not fast breaks. You're not making stops where everyone is out of position in transition. A rebound off a missed free throw is orderly and everyone is guarded going up the court. Runs are rarely half court speed. They happen on fast breaks, even slower ones.

You eliminate your opportunity to make something special happen. You're not getting a steal or forcing a stop. You aren't riding momentum. You aren't creating extra possessions for your team only. The opponent still gets a possession and will score at a fairly normal rate even for awful FT shooters. Stops are what you need and FTs are not a stop, even for bad shooters.

So what does hack a whoever to? It slows you down, lets them set up their defense on you, lets them rest a little on the court, prevents them from getting flustered, and forced your offense into the half court. Dumb dumb dumb.
What do you mean from a shooting perspective it's not useful. 43% sucks, every coach would love t hold an opponent to that.

And what if you're a team that doesn't get a lot of steals or fast break points? if you hack-a-player who shoots 43%, you are limit their offense to .86 points per poss.
That is a full tenth better than the best defensive team in the league, the Spurs. Before you say it's dumb, dumb, dumb, you need to show us some stats that can show how the increase in PPP from potential fast break points on those hack-a-plays outweighs the opporutnity to get elite defense.

And of course, if you are behind, you might want to use this tactic to stop the clock.

CJ bringing it. Nice to see. I'm loving Plumlee's energy as well.

Lillard is clear cutting entire forests w/ the Daimler 30 trees planted for every 3 made in the playoffs.

CP3 still getting way too open in the key. No way we can win when he's feeling that free to roam.

Until we learn how to play defense, or commit to a better effort, it's going to keep happening.

We should stick one of Harkless/Aminu on Redick and CJ on Mbah A Moute. They can get around screens better than CJ and we could switch those downscreens, as both can guard big men.

Good to see CJ will eclipse his showing from last game. Badly needed.

Kaman should've gone inside for that last rebound.

Edit: Oh right, he can't jump

Griffin clears with left arm and foul on davis trying to recover for the rebound.

Yeah! Aminu hits a jumper! Hopefully that ignites our team

Seems like all the Clippers want to do is fish for fouls.

I like how hard they're playing. Just need those shots to drop.

Where's the tech on paul he can't be allowed to get away with that bs
