Game Thread PLAYOFFS - ROUND 2, GAME 1: Blazers @ Warriors - 5/1/16, Sunday, 12:30 (PDT), ABC

Still think we can win Game 2. Horrible first quarter, partly due to having 36 hours to prepare versus their 4 days. Have to imagine we won't have another first half where our backcourt shoots so poorly.

I'm sick of Portland not getting any credit for this season. Nothing about Ilshey, nothing about Stotts. How many teams lose four of five starters and make the second round of the playoffs. The commentary is literally:

"The Blazers were supposed to win around 29 ganes at the most."

"Yeah Bob. They have really achieved when everybody expected them to lose."

"Anyway. Let's get back to talking about that team that is so far ahead of the rest of the league, the Golden State Warriors."

Beatles song for the Blazers: Daydream Believer

You do know that's a Monkees song, right?

Appropriate Beatles songs for game 1:
I'm only sleeping (first quarter)
Don't bring me down (sung by me, at the screen)
Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey (sung by me after I turned off the game and smoked a doobey)

I like all the songs Pete Best did for the Beatles.

Okay so we get there and lay an egg. I watched shot after shot bounce off the front of the rim. Obvious sign that they were tired or maybe the Warriors made the ball heavier when they were shooting? I'm gonna go with tired legs.
Bad shooting game was pretty much to be expected.

The Blazers aren't going to get a lot of credit from the national press OR the officials until... well, probably never, but not at the very least until we're favored to win.

Don't you mean "Don't LET me down"

"Don't bring me down" is an ELO song, and while Jeff Lynne basically wants to call himself a Beatle, he wasn't a Beatle.

Monkeys were much more talented than people have them credit for. They could actually play their instruments. Michael Nesmith wrote "Different Drum" one of the best songs of the 60's. They championed Harry Nilsson, one of America's greatest ever singer/songwriters and discovered Tim Buckley. For a "manufacturered band" that's pretty damn good!

Shot by my own gun. But then, Happiness is a warm gun.

(And Jeff Lynne at least got to be in a band WITH a Beatle.)

The Monkees were really a bunch of studio musicians including Frank Zappa, Neil Diamond and the Wrecking Crew.

All the talking heads could discuss at the end of the Clippers/Blazers series was how unfortunate it was for Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Doc/Austin Rivers, Boo-fucking-hoo. Because they were suddenly the underdogs.

When the Blazers were the underdogs at the start of the series, it was "The Clippers are clearly superior. The Blazers are lucky to be here." Etc.

Not sure if it's just bias on my part, but the media and the league sure does love to perform verbal fellatio on the NBA darlings.

Don't forget "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" and "Randy Scouse Git".
Also, don't forget "Head":

How did this become a "Monkeys" thread? Sly did you do this to take the attention off of you messing with the Game thread?

Guys, can we keep this on topic? Bands that were better than the Beatles.

On topic: Clearly the Beach Boys.

I feel like some people had unrealistic expectations about this series..... or they claimed to have realistic expectations, but once the series actually started, they reverted back to the unrealistic expectations.

It's like someone saying, "I know I have no shot with Jennifer Lawrence. I bet if I asked her out, she'd tell me to fuck off."

Then, they walk up to Jennifer Lawrence, ask her out, she says "fuck off," and they get pissed off.

The instructions on that gun say "handle with care"
