So now it's simply Bands that are better than the Beatles? I can answer that one. There are none....

I feel like some people had unrealistic expectations about this series..... or they claimed to have realistic expectations, but once the series actually started, they reverted back to the unrealistic expectations.

It's like someone saying, "I know I have no shot with Jennifer Lawrence. I bet if I asked her out, she'd tell me to fuck off."

Then, they walk up to Jennifer Lawrence, ask her out, she says "fuck off," and they get pissed off.

I think rationally people understood that the Warriors were a really good team without Curry, but there was a small part of their brain that whispered, "Maybe they're nothing without Curry!" And that, subconsciously, led them to believe that the Blazers had a good chance to win this series.

I feel comfortable with that pop psychology diagnosis of lots of different people.

Shot by my own gun. But then, Happiness is a warm gun.

(And Jeff Lynne at least got to be in a band WITH a Beatle.)
The Travelling Wilburys is not a band. It's the equivalent of golf's Champions Tour. An old fart wankfest.

How rude!

The Monkees were really a bunch of studio musicians including Frank Zappa, Neil Diamond and the Wrecking Crew.

The Wrecking Crew worked on their albums and Neil Diamond wrote for them. As far as I know, Zappa never produced or played with them. He loved them though. He appeared in their movie and asked Mikey Dolenz to play with him at one time. Which is quite an honor. Frank loved the musicality put into The Monkeys. You had flower power bands like The Association, The Electric Prunes, produced by guys like Jerry Hester and Dave Hassinger that were just as fake as the Monkeys. Frank saw through the BS.

Like Woody Allen's earlier, funnier movies, the Beatles had their earlier, better, faster songs.

Monkeys were much more talented than people have them credit for. They could actually play their instruments. Michael Nesmith wrote "Different Drum" one of the best songs of the 60's. They championed Harry Nilsson, one of America's greatest ever singer/songwriters and discovered Tim Buckley. For a "manufacturered band" that's pretty damn good!

Well, they did guest on 'The Brady Bunch' which was clearly a sign of transcendent talent.

Guys, can we keep this on topic? Bands that were better than the Beatles.

Pink Floyd.

Wait, I thought you said "had more letters in their name" (actually, I like Pink Floyd better).

Agreed. The Beatles peaked with "She Loves You." Not even joking.

On topic: Clearly the Beach Boys.

Oh dear. A sadly popular delusion. Presumably among people with a fondness for barbershop quartets.

Better argument: Pet Sounds was a better album than any Beatles album. Still false, but less obviously so.

All we are saying, is give peace a chance.

Catchy lyrics, great tune.

I think Pet Sounds is the best music ever recorded. I think the Beatles put out more great albums though. I get an audio-boner listening to the White Album with headphones.

Just as tight, but more morose, were the albums from the 1964-65 school year, not the 1963-64 school year. 2 rhymes per line instead of one. Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Most groups peak with their first hit, then get overconfident and rich in the 2nd half of the game. The Doors, etc.

I'll take credit for this thread barf-o-Rama!

Dame stinks it up for three quarters and then goes off in the fourth when the game is out of reach.

I see this has carried over from the Clipper series.

Status quo.

The Beach Boys' earlier simpler songs were superior to the Beatles' earlier simpler songs and their later-'60s more sophisticated songs were far superior to the Beatles' later-'60s more sophisticated songs.

Great harmonies aren't a bad thing, but I guess since the Beatles didn't have them, that's a convenient thing to sneer about. ;)

Any chance Varejao or whatever his name is could get a further ban? JC
