Playoffs vs #4 Pick

Realistically Dunn wouldn't be an option for this team as we have two really good similar players. Simmons, Ingram and Brown are the only right away impact players we would want. Dragan and Skal could be others but idk too much about them.

They are players we would want, but do you really think they would be impact players....... right away?

I want to thank you guys for giving me college players to check out on youtube...I'd never heard of some of these guys..

No problem, I should've been more clear. When I say 4-14 I'm talking more on the lines of wing/big man in that grouping.

So if you are looking for a wing, look at the aggression Jaylen Brown attacks the basket with and his ability on defense (when he puts his mind to it). Not a lot of bigs to be sure but they seem to be a vanishing breed. Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Walton etc would destroy the soft big men in the league now. Can you imagine what a healthy Sabonis would do to this league?

I look at this season's rookies and really count one impact player...Porzingas

I think Drummond is carrying that torch

Yes, I think those 3 come in right away and put up good rookie numbers.

Simmons is a guy I could see starting off at 15/5/5 with solid shooting (~.445/.340/.750) and smooth defense.

Ingram is more of a project but could pull off 12/3/2 on "meh" shooting but could bother the hell out of people with his length.

Brown would come in and play a non crazy Artest-esque game imho.

I could imagine, although I don't really have to.

And this would be why. Yes, I'm saying that Porzingis reminds me of Sabonis at a similar age. He's going to be scary by the time he's 22.

I've only watched Simmons play one game but I think he's going to look a little different on defense in the NBA..

Man landing the next great two way big man would do wonders. Skal, Sabonis and Poeltl are the "Premier" big men if I'm not mistaking. Not one of them I'd say is a better prospect than Vonleh.

Yes, it matters, because the pick and the team's development aren't independent of one another. In fact, they are interrelated. We keep the pick with a worse record. We keep it with a better record. These aren't "wild-ass guesses"; these are facts. A logical analysis of the situation takes all the facts into account. You however are free to ignore the reality of the situation; that's your prerogative.

Where's the relevance in having a better record? Does that guarantee we'll have a better record next year, too? No, what happens this season guarantees us nothing about the future. Missing the playoffs and keeping our pick guarantees us at least one more asset for next year, independent of how all the other dominoes fall.

I'll try to break this down in the simplest terms possible.

When players play badly, teams lose games.

When players get better, teams win more games.

If this team wins more games, then it suggests that the players got better.

Better players are more valuable assets to the team.

Therefore, the franchise benefits overall if the players get better, as evidenced by a better record.

The dude is putting up 20/13/5 with 2 steals and 1 block per game on .553/.333/.713
He's way better than college level players, but so are D league players..my question is will it translate to the NBA right away or is he going to be a project?

His game is smooth and natural, it should translate right away. This guy is on the same level as Durant or Davis were as prospects.

D'Angelo Russell put up great stats..went number 2...not a difference maker yet in the NBA..he was around 20/5/5 in college. Maybe Simmons is better than the game I watched. People sure have him hyped up.

So anyway it'll be ..."Welcome to Philly" for him in all probability

Russell has a ton of potential. However his game was never smooth, we just all saw raw ability. Russell is more like a Westbrook type prospect, boom or bust.

What position in the NBA for Simmons? a point forward?

All three of these guys should be good NBA players......eventually. But they will all struggle if they come out at the end of this year. Brown has the body but a poor jumper right now.
Never a good sign as a rookie. Right now Dillon Brooks is more polished than Brown and I am not sure Brooks is even a NBA player.

This is the new NBA, postionless basketball is becoming a thing. Simmons is like a weird mix of Durant and Draymond.

Dillon Brooks is a beast too he could be a major steal if he declares but I doubt he will.

I'll try to break this down in the simplest terms possible.

When players play badly, teams lose games.

Also when they're injured. And as long as we're guessing what will happen in the future based on what happens this year, you might as well calculate the odds of Lillard having a career ending injury by carrying a heavy load in a playoff loss.

If this team wins more games, then it suggests that the players got better.

Sort of like how all that playoff experience the past two years made us so much better when the whole team departed in free agency? I don't put a whole lot of faith in suggested outcomes. :)

He played great tonight in AZ. If the Ducks can get Brooks back, get the extra year for Boucher (Which they think they have a realistic shot at) to to along with Dorsey, Bell, Benson and their three top recruits, and maybe a another JC star......they could be pretty good next year.

The issue with Brooks is he is 6'6" in shoes. He really needs to be lights out from deep to go along with the rest of his game. He will not be able to attack the basket in the NBA like he does in college. Hopefuly he know that and stays. As I recall he reclassified to get into Oregon, so he is young for a sophomore. He needs another year.

As much as the experience of making the play-offs would be an achievement, and great experience for this young group - missing out on crucial building assests, like the draft pick, would be too much of a price to pay.

“Every day, getting up, coming into the weight room, you’ve got to get your lift in. You’ve got to get out there and get your shooting in before we practice, and then we practice. And then we’ve got film, and then you’ve got treatment. It’s a battle because you do all these things, and you invest all this time, and everybody thinks it’s a rebuilding situation, so you’re invested in it (with) a championship habit, developing championship habits, but not a lot is expected. So it’s been a battle to go out there and be consistent in games, just doing all the things that a young team has to do and then go out there and try to win games. It’s been a constant battle.”

I'm all for getting the lotto pick in all honesty, but the pick vs playoff debate is not black and white. There are key things that Dame talks of in this article that we have to give consideration to as well.
