Florida state legislature working on a bill that would make it a crime to claim discrimination based on race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity. Not to actually discriminate. To claim discrimination. To say someone is racist, homophobic, whatever. The defendant (person who claimed discrimination) can't use as defense statements made by plaintiff (the bigot) that are deemed based on bigot's religion or "scientific" opinions, i.e. claiming "science says there are only two genders" or "science says gays recruit children" even if claims provably false.

There are several factors that determine how much oil gets pumped, and very few of them have anything to do with who is president right now.

True. Of course, Biden was opposed to gay marriage when he won in 2008. So that wasn't the kind of change he was promising.

But props to him for not actively fighting the will of the people to expand equality.

Definitely better if you want to prove you're as crooked, dishonest, and opposed to environmental responsibility as Republicans are.

C'mon. Don't act so surprised. They're politicians. And if gas prices continue to drop over the course of '24, it helps Biden far more than Trump. And (unfortunately) that is all I care about at the moment. That is the position we have been put in.

Which suprised you more?
Biden's broken promises, or, my agreeing with Barfo?

Barfo is correct, the increase in oil production has more to do with improvements made to current wells to pump more oil. Especially in the Texas fields.

All of the new permits issued are just the begining of a long process. It gives the oil companies permission to conduct more tests to determine if large drilling projects "may" be profitable.

If the oil companys decide to go ahead, then many more permits, from various govt agency's must be obtained. Such as environmental, road and pipeline permits. Any one of the agency's can stop the process, and often do.

This process can take years. And could result in dry wells.

I worked oilfield for the entirety of my twenties. Ive been involved in every step from exploration, drilling and production, all the way through plugging and reclamation. Pipeline as well.
The running joke was always that when Democrats get elected, pack your bags it’s about to be a free-for-all. It’s always been well known in that industry that Democrats speak out the sides of their mouth to their voters while winking at the oil CEO’s. I made a ton of money under Democrats’ fake environmental posturing.

None of it surprises me. I fully expected he was full of shit about being environmentally responsible. He has shown us he's just another crooked politician for the last 50 years...

Yes, all of this is in support of the oil industry that needs to be greatly restricted, rather than be maintained, and should certainly not be allowed to expand. Pretty much all scientists and professionals are in agreement with this... but what do they know?

Hydroxychloroquine is good. Drill baby drill...

At the end of the day the only advantageous position for a politician on any side to take is the one that satisfies their donors, investments and future gigs. Social issues like gun rights, gay or trans rights or abortion mean nothing to any politician on a moral or ethical level, they are only convenient tools to keep the plebs distracted and warring while they are financially subjugated.

I'm not surprised. It's exactly what I said would happen, and exactly why I don't like Rs or Ds. They give us different pillow talk, but bend us over the same barrell.
 
Imagine there’s a town. The town gets together and decides to have a big parade. Everybody is involved and does their part. The butcher, the baker, the laborers artists and musicians, all plan and execute to ensure the celebration is a great one. The day comes and indeed it is a fine outing and everyone is having a ball. In the midst of the splendor, the parade rounds the corner and heads down Main st, and just then, a lazy nobody who did nothing to help manifest this great gathering grabs a baton, jumps in front and proudly proclaims himself the leader of the parade.
That person is a politician.

Earlier he had announced a celebration of his 70th birthday with Martin Sheen, Dionne Warwick and other celebrities. All of whom sent indignant statements they were not attending, had never agreed to attend and did not support him. Party has been cancelled.
 
Trump mocked President Carter, saying Biden made him happy because thanks to Biden, Carter is no longer stupidest president.

Trump approvingly quoted praise he received from Sammy Gravano, aka Sammy the Bull, mafia hitman with 19 acknowledged murders who got a deal in exchange for testifying against John Gotti.

Honestly, those two statements tell you everything you need to know about Trump and why is unfit to clean the cat box, let alone be president.

A Kentucky Republican has introduced legislation that would amend the state's law so a person who had sex with their first cousin would no longer be criminally liable for incest.

House Bill 269, which state Representative Nick Wilson sponsored, was introduced on January 16 to the House Committee on Committees. According to the Kentucky General Assembly website, it would strike "first cousin from the list of familial relationships" defined as unlawful incest in the state. The amendment would also reduce the designation of incest by contact to a Class D felony for some cases "unless it is committed with a person who is less than twelve years of age," in which case it is Class C.
