Because everything on the OT board 'must' come down to Left vs. Right ... Liberal vs. Conservative ... white males vs. everyone else. I get it, no one likes bullies and they should be put in their place but people are also a lot more sensitive about EVERYTHING these days, where their feelings matter more than anything else. To me this is the pendulum swinging too far in the opposite direction and hopefully things will level out at some point.

Because the right (far more than the left) made it into "us against them". All they care about is "owning the libs". I have seriously tried to have productive conversations with conservatives, and with very few exceptions it is all about "gotcha". They don't want to hear WHY I feel as I do, they only want to know HOW I feel......so they can immediately tell me I'm wrong. Gotcha. Literally, I have asked scores of times why they voted for Trump, what rights the Left is taking away and every other provocative talking point they want to bring up. And rather than give me any kind of a reasoned answer, they (virtually every single time!) respond rudely, apparently because they have no answer to the lies they are being told. They can't think for themselves outside the "pack". The "best" answer I could get for why they voted for Trump is because "he's a business man". Some even called him a "brilliant" business man, despite every true fact available showing him to be anything but a brilliant business man (Apparently nine bankruptcies aren't enough proof). From my own personal experience, when I point out irrefutable facts and information they shut their ears and their minds and immediately go on the attack. I'm still waiting to hear which rights we've had stolen by the Left. Christ, the country is coming apart at the seams and all the Right cares about is trans athletes competing in f**king games!!!??!!!. (Apparently the Right has lost some rights in there somewhere). In the grand scheme of things, what does it really matter who is competing in a shitty swim meet??? All the Right seems to be interested in is in burning things down because they know the future has no place for them and their autocratic, white might bullshit..........

Ignoring a bully empowers them to think they can continue that behavior.

Calling someone ugly could be racist. But that wasn't what I was alluding to.

If someone says something racist then says it is a joke, does not make it ok to say the racist thing.

I agree. I believe that racists can bully but not all bullies are racist. Those are the ones i am eluding to.
Calling someone ugly isn't racist unless they are saying a race is ugly, and if one is of that race, they are ugly because of that, regardless of physical attraction.
There is a difference between that and calling someone ugly or cute, based on individual attraction.

Why even call someone ugly in the first place? Even if they are not, they could be self conscious about it.

I guarantee you there are people in this world that call people ugly because of their race.

I haven't a clue what possesses bullies to be rude.
If we start trying to control all people based on others’ insecurities we have tossed out our constitution as we know it.
So that isn't happening, so technically rude people have the right to be rude.
You can either let it affect you, or move on to something more productive, cause all you are really doing is feeding them the attention they desire to keep on goin by going back at them.

Nah. Call out bullies otherwise you are empowering them. And they will think that behavior is ok. That isn't controlling someone. That is sticking up for people that can't stick up for themselves.

One can also simply disassociate. Problem solved on a personal level. Let their bullying isolate themselves into nonexistence.

Completely disagree. That's quite literally, the absolute worst thing you can do.

I'll keep calling out assholes. Thanks. (Hint, I can be one sometimes too).

But it is different than making fun of someones appearance, disability, race etc. Those deserve being called out.

I don't disagree with that overall. I suppose bullies come on varying levels.
Again, Im very much against bullying. But I have personally had the law side against me when standing up to bullying/selfish/assholish behavior. I have found the fight futile and have sought other forms of retribution, that has a better chance of having a more positive impact than some back and forth with a bully that lives for conflicts.
I have come to see it as just feeding into their desires.

North Carolina lieutenant governor calls for ending all science and history teaching in elementary school. Talking of running for governor on platform of cutting education, outlawing abortion and preventing trans people from serving in military, which is federal, not state. Also climate change isn't real.
