Thick skinned is sometimes used as a "it's ok I called you an offensive name, racist, misogynistic, discriminatory, but its ok! Have thick skin"

If you wanna say racist and homophobic stuff go ahead. Just don't be surprised if someone tears into you about it.

Not accusing him of doing so.

Those are the things people should never say and justify them as jokes telling people to get thick skin.

Everyone ranges in their feelings on being teased. People should be respectful of that.

Asking for "thick skin" with anything that is ableist, homophobic, racist etc. Deserves scrutiny.

I never accused him of doing so.

He disagreed with what i said calling out racism, misogyny etc in regard to thick skin. So i told him to knock himself out with those things if he disagrees thick skin isnt used to defend those things.

Sure, it can be used to defend those terrible things. It has become a mainstay for attacks on political correctness.

I think Hoop was trying to say he doesn't use it to defend racism or homophobia and maybe wasn't aware it is used in such ways. But, I'll leave that to him to clarify.

I straight up responded to him saying it is sometimes used for those things and he disagreed with me. So......

My interpretation was thick shin being wearing feelings on sleeves and I had zero thoughts of racism or misogyny.
A few of my kids wear their feelings on their arm sleeves and are very sensitive to this and that as an example.

: an ability to keep from getting upset or offended by the things other people say and do She has pretty thick skin when it comes to criticism. If you want to perform publicly, you'll need to grow a thicker skin.
 
When someone pulls a gun because another motorist's window cleaning fluid got on their car, when the occupant if the white house threatens legal action against Saturday Night Live because they satirized him, yes, those people need a chill pill. When I get upset over reference to Nazi Holocaust and get told not to get my panties in a bunch, the problem isn't me.

Yes. That fits exactly what I said it is being used as.

Racist and homophobic things are things people can say. People can get offended from it. And people can tell them to get thicker skin.

That is wrong. Thicker skin is not an excuse for being an asshole.

Nobody said it was. My one daughter I mentioned that wishes she had thicker skin works for the airlines and she deals with hot heads that are thin skinned and assholes of all types.
