Leader of book burning efforts in Texas has a gay son whom she threw out of the house and banned from all family gatherings because she is a Christian.

She has proposed, to applause from Daughters of the Confederacy or whatever they call themselves now, that a local Christian pastor approve or disapprove all library books.

We can presume she means a white right wing pastor, not Raphael Warnock.

Seems like a lot of you on here need to get some thicker skin (in no way shape or form is that meant to be a homophobic, sexist, racist, ageist, ableist or whatever other 'ist comment)!

I never said bullying is funny.
Let’s put it this way, id prefer to spend my time rallying against the worst of things. Meaning true racist agendas or anything that suppresses one sect of people.

But you aren't gonna rid the world of assholes. If you choose to spend your time and energy going at every asshole, I'm here to tell you from experience, you are trying to drain the ocean.
But have at it.

True racist agendas? Saying something racist then calling it a joke is bad. Sorry.

Of course you won't rid the world of assholes. But letting people think they can just say whatever they want with no repercussions is the worst thing you can do.
 
I don't see it as people nowadays having "thinner skin". I think it's a chunk of us realizing you should actually treat people kindly and with respect, and if you're going to say mean or stupid shit, you should get called out for it. Having thicker skin back in the day reads to me that white men were able and willing to say whatever shit they want, and you just had to deal with it or else. Fuck that. Call out assholes for being assholes.

Bingo. The Right has been crying for years about how the Left has been taking away "rights" for years, and that Trump has put a stop to it (that is how deep the stupidity goes). All the Left tried to do was shame people for being assholes. Unfortunately, too many people in this world want to be assholes and are proud to be so. Trump made it okay to be an asshole again. And the Republican Party has taken full advantage......Welcome to today's America...........

if one is to get up In arms over every little assholish move someone says or does, one will be very, very unhappy.
I have recently come to understand there are far too many assholes in this world and they deserve zero of my energy unless their behavior inflicts real harm on others.

When Trump was an asshole repeatedly and much of the right supported and even encouraged his behavior.

Then the majority of the republican party actually voted for him to be president.

It's not necessarily "getting up in arms" over every little thing. But it's calling out and standing up to assholes in part because there are marginalized citizens in the world who can not. Or when they do, they're told to get thicker skin. So then everyone should call them out.
 
I get. I am no fan of bullies. I just found it to be much akin to pushing back on the ocean. And frankly have also received much criticism over the years for being too sensitive.
I have just found my energy is spent more productively on other issues needing addressed and have become much happier for it.
To each their own.
