I've been watching this blow up for the last few days.

Everything that has been named after Chavez needs to be renamed after Dolores Huerta.

What a horrific story.

All of us are assholes at times. We have all hurt people, done shitty things, failed to step up. It's being human. Then there is evil. Had Chavez had extramarital affairs with grown women (or men) that would be ordinary assholery. Raping children or for that matter adults is evil.

Dolores Huerta acknowledged Cesar Chavez raped her on two occasions, both of which resulted in pregnancies. She hid her pregnancies and placed the children for adoption. She was afraid saying anything could hurt the cause.

When popular powerful men rape, we don't hear how dare he rape. Instead those who report hear how dare you take this man down, destroy his reputation, his career, his cause.

Because men do important things. Women are expendable.

Everyone now saying they didn't know. If it was one incident maybe. But multiple women and girls over years? Someone knew. Just figured he was important and the women and children weren't.

A name you probably don't know, Marc Grossman. As it happens I went to high school with him but he was a couple of years ahead of me. He went to work for Farmworkers Union although his background, white, middle class, suburban, Jewish, college educated, was totally unlike farmworkers because he was idealistic and believed in the cause. He became personal assistant and right hand man to Chavez, at his side until Chavez died. Then director of Cesar Chavez Foundation. I long since lost contact but thought he was admirable. Now I wonder. If he was that close, how could he have not known?

I lived in Seattle when Empire Way was changed to Martin Luther King Way. Some people petitioned against it. They insisted they weren't at all racist, it was all about the cost of name change. So I asked them what other street name changes they had petitioned against...

I didn’t know the person or of him. But there were rumors he was a “controversial” person. No issues whatsoever with Latinos or unions (though like many laws in this, there are flaws to unions, but they protect the general masses and I generally agree with them).

We live in a world where people petition and sue for everything.

As much as people rail against a street name change, others can simply know it as something else while acknowledging it all the same. Its not completely black and white, disrespect or not disrespect, it can be a matter of preference.

Now if someone outright says they dont say it because of the color of skin, etc, then thats not okay. Otherwise its just an assumption.

Now where I draw the line is I will never call anything by the T*ump name under any circumstance.

Its the Kennedy Center, its whatever the airport name was before it got changed, etc. I will never say that persons name if its on a building, street, etc.

Unless its a toilet, then ill gladly call it the Trump Dump!
