They can't shell out another large contract to another no defense playing big man. He has some nice skills (unlike Meyers), but we need a Noel type center right now if we're going to pay a center large amounts of money.

Too bad they didn't give Plumlee that 10 mil and let Meyers go. Plumlee is at least solid enough to hold down the fort or be a nice backup big. But we do need an upgrade defensively in the middle. Mason might be a cap casualty next year, because Portland is already way over the luxury tax threshold.

I agree. A contender would give a lot for him, and I think we'll be able to flip Vonleh, Napier, and our 2018 firsts for Noel.

He has value. I think that we need to maximize it. We put the ball in his hands too much and take it out of CJs and Dames. We need a legit rim protector/roll man to play off Dame and CJ, not to act as a Point Center and be a creator.

Only if we have a fire every single front office member and coach thread too!

haha this has got to happen.

In all seriousness, I tend to agree with your op. Plumlee is just not suited as a starter imo, he would be an amazing backup, though. But, at the money he makes, yeah, Im not sure you want him as a backup.

We have to keep Plumlee and let him play with an actual rim protector. Imagine all the easy lobs to someone like Noel.

Can't we get a center who is a little bigger? Has the guy even topped 230 yet?

Noel's weight doesn't really matter, he's got excellent length. Huge wingspan.

But if we want a real monster, go get Nurkic. He's not afraid of cousins either, if cousins spit his mouthpiece at Nurkic there would've been a fight.

He's listed on Google at 6-11 and 212 lbs. What the fuck? Is he built like a pencil?

I would try him at power forward first with a competent center who can defend. Move Crabbe and pick for Noel, then maybe try moving some pieces for Faried (rebounding, solid defense) or even Thad Young (cannot defend but at least scores from PF). Then try to build back the backcourt if we let Crabbe go as we will be left with hardly any cover. Galloway, Kilpatrick, whatever.

THIS. Plums needs to play at PF. Dude isn't a center. Couple him with Noel, I am good with that. Plums will be tossing lobs.

What I think is that most of the fans get too attached to some players and miss the big picture. Don't trade Plumlee he can be a beast but we don't play him the right way right now, don't trade Harkless he is the future in SF position, don't trade CJ he can create his own shot and is an amazing scorer, don't trade Crabbe is our best shooter off the bench, don't trade Vonleh he can be an amazing player.

Ok then how do we get a decent return? We don't trade anyone and the others give us players for free? Or we think packages of all the garbage we have+some picks will do the job? Everyone else is stupid and we the smart ones?

Regarding this topic the thought of not trading Plumlee because he would be a great fit as a PF next to a rim protector is insane. In today's NBA where spacing is everything we get too attached to Plumlee that we even envision him as a good fit next to a rim protecting C and all this because the only thing he can do at an elite level (for a big guy) is to pass the ball?

Interesting how you mention the importance of spacing and then the very next sentence devalue passing the basketball. Passing the ball is spacing! You can't leave plumlee open just because he can't shoot because he'll kill you with his ability to make decisions with the ball. Look at the clippers series as an example. Plumlee was our MVP.

I said elite for a big guy, there are many players in the league with much better court vision and in the end of the day when you play PF you need a decent jumper. And he is not that lethal passer that "he'll kill you with his ability to make decisions with the ball". It's Mason Plumlee, not Draymond Green.

All in all I'd love to have Plumlee around as a backup big, but not with the contract he'll demand during summer. We just cannot afford paying a lot to another not difference maker.

I do agree Noel is more of a PF than a center, but the only problem with that is since there are so many stretch 4's in the league he would have to cover the perimeter and we still wouldn't have a rim protector under the basket.....which is his main strength.
Not saying he would not help, just that I think we need more size at center and move Plumlee to PF.

I don't think Noel is a power forward. They tried him there with Okafor at C last year and they were dreadful.

So he can't play center and he can't play PF......why do we want him so badly? Of course they would have been dreadful last year regardless.

I guess if he could get up to 240 and was a lot stronger, he could play the Marcus Camby role. But I would still prefer a space eater in there.

Uhh he can play center. Very well. He's an anchor, despite whatever his weight is

I still prefer Nurkic, but not because of size, but rather because he brings more to the table offensively. If you're going to criticize any part of Noels game, that should be it.

Plumlee will demand 1.5 times that.
