Trade Idea How We can Fix this Team, both Short Term and Long Term, by the Trade Deadline

To get Ibaka, I think it would take CJ.

Plus you have to assume he's going to leave via UFA in the offseason, no?

I am not proposing this trade. I just used the trade machine to get an idea of the size of salaries needed to make a trade work.

Now that I know it takes a $24.3M contract on our part, I can substitute $24.3M worth of contracts to avoid including Dame (obviously we wouldn't deal him and CJ):

This would put the team in the LT though.

His D is MARGINALLY better than Dame/CJ.
I've got to disagree with this...he plays way better TEAM defense than either Dame or CJ....what I like is that defense seems to come first with Crabbe starting and offense is a second option. I like what I saw and I've been as disappointed in Crabbe as anybody leading up to the last couple games.

Me, too.

We've looked like a very different team the last two games. Like the team we expected all along. There's every reason to expect this kind of play from this lineup going forward.

We do have to see when Dame comes back if we can play like this, too.

Past performance is no guarantee of future performance.

I remember Crabbe played really well when Batum went down couple years ago...I don't think we lost a game he started in. ..CJ and Dame try but really have to foul a good scorer to get a stop ..I'm stoked to see Stotts go this route

I would be for it if he played more like Wesley when he was starting with Dame. I was hoping for Crabbe to become a player like that.

But he's not. He's not the defender Wes was, nor does he put up enough shots to be as good. He's not yet the player that Wes USED to be.

playing with the starting unit is a different animal than coming off the bench.....Crabbe to me could become better than Wes at the 2 playing with the core...we don't need him AND Turner coming off the bench...they are too much alike...Crabbe is better at two things than Wes was...dribbling and finishing a layup...Wes would bring wide open layups on a fast break and Wes dribbled the ball up to his chin

Even in the last couple of games he's really been non existent. He did almost nothing in the 2nd half of the SAC game when they have no one to guard him.

People really need to stop overrating him. We played solid defense with the same starters last year.

He played better off the bench last season....

I'd love to see Dame and Crabbe start and CJ and Turner with the bench mob.....improve both units

Crabbe and Turner are nothing alike. Not in the slightest.

We need to tank.

How did Cleveland become good? Lottery.

How did Golden State become good? Lottery.

Tank.

Silly notion. They trapped Dame/CJ all year but teams never games planned against us? Huh? This is the NBA. Every team has a gameplan...
nah....teams played down to us last season, many rested their stars...we surprised the league who predicted we'd win 20 some games ..this season we're not surprising anyone

They are both taller and longer than our tweener pt guards

They both have a reputation for playing defense and are SG/SF type players. On offense is where the real difference is. Crabbe is a 3pt gunner, while Turner is a ballhandler/passer/slasher without a 3pt game.

The two complement each other if in the game at the same time, as long as one isn't being abused by a much taller and heavier player. Or they can be used per situation.

Tanking is stupid. Now if we are bad/lucky enough to get the top pick, cool, but openly trying to be the worst is a losers mentality, which btw, rarely actually results in landing the top pick.

Also, this is a very strong draft class, and mixed in with Olsheys talent evaluation, I'd feel comfortable that the Blazers would land a legit prospect regardless.

it takes more than just talent to be a successful franchise. You need a certain culture, a certain attitude. Look at teams like the sixers and wolves. The first thing that comes to mind whenever either team is mentioned is "whens the draft?" Fuck tanking.

Orlando gave up a LOT for Ilbaka in the off season. I don't see them trading him, although you have a point in that they might just say fuck it and blow their entire roster up.
Isn't he a FA at the end of the season? It's kind of up to him. He might know that they're ready to overpay him to keep him, though.

That's the only comparison. They do nothing else alike. Turner is light years ahead of Crabbe defensively. On offense it's like night & day. They should compliment each other.

You mean like this:

CRABBE: You're a good defender, Evan
TURNER: Thanks man! Love your shooting!

?

I thought the same, but I'm too nice to post it. Your snark complements my internal monologue nicely.

Gotta tank. Austin Wiley is the target but he's not available until 2018.

Pretty sure Orlando is going to do just that, which is going to top the stupidity of the initial trade. Wonderful work there, Orlando, truly magical.

But hey, maybe they'll give us Vucevic for free first.

It's a disease. I'm not proud. And don't get me started on beg the question, uninterested vs. disinterested, jealousy vs. envy...

I explained "beg the question" to my mom just recently--she was flabbergasted. "Less" vs "fewer" is my present pet peeve. That, and people typing "defiantly" when they mean "definitely"; that one drives me nuts.
