Pokemon Go

I downloaded this app Thursday night at midnight and was walking around my street trying to catch some pokemon. My wife yells at me "Your 30 years old and your playing pokemon!" to which I replied "gotta catch them all" and kept walking.

I grew up with the show and the gameboy game when they were the biggest things around for my age group. Also played the card game for a little bit of time. Its been a lot more fun for me to show it to my daughter who is turning 5 in a few days. She loves going on walks with me, lots of hour long walks because she wants to try and catch more, and i'v even shown her the show because its on Netflix and she loves it. My wife on the other hand is wondering how she ever married such a giant nerd.

Seems like a cool idea, I was never into the Pokemon stuff though. Nintendo stock gained like 8 billion dollars in a week, pretty amazing.

Why is Nintendo stock up? I thought this was an app you download on your phone?

Pokemon was created and is owned by Nintendo.

I assume, then, Nintendo gets a cut--but what's the monetizing aspect of Pokemon Go? Microtransactions? Do you buy the balls used to capture pokemons?

Has this been used commercially yet? Like a business or location can pay Nintendo to put a super rare Pokemon in their store, pushing sales?

Huh.

Haven't played, I'm assuming in ap purchases, etc. The millions using it are exciting investors though obviously.

I think you can put a lure in a location. A friend of mine who runs a store said they put a lure in their store to attract people in. I don't really understand the game that much or know how that works.

Just wait until Nintendo starts advertising Amiibos on this thing, there's already a legion of 20-30 something neckbeards all over those things.

I have the app but I've only spent about 5 minutes total on it. Haven't noticed any purchasing options though.

From what i'm told... Microtransactions. I'm personally not into it but friends have told me that you can spend money to level up faster or something like that. Im not sure if there are any ads or anything like that.

That's a pretty convenient excuse to the police when you're out trolling for hookers, "I was just trying to catch Bulbasaur!"

Or robbing houses. I expect some people will end up dead breaking into someone's house and Nintendo will be at least partly to blame legally for leading them there.

Between this and Tesla auto cars running amok personal safety just got a lot more complicated.

Shit, now Nintendo is releasing a mini-nes that has 30 nes games on it, they're really trying to cater to their old fans.

^ That's awesome! I want one! The list of games is impressive. Mario Bros, Metroid, Excitebike, etc etc
This deserves it's own thread.

I live by paris island i guess some marines got in trouble going through peoples yards to catch shit on base. lol. MP's showed up, probably figured well we are here lets catch these pokemon before we take these ass holes to the brig. Then i started thinking. What if a rare pokemon is in the brig? Was this the plan all along?

It doesn't have Dragon Warrior though. I was pretty disappointed in that omission.

My phone died two days ago. Under warranty, some battery issue, but it is an internal battery so they can't just replace the battery. Could be a manufacturing defect (it's a 6 month old phone), but I blame Pokémon Go. I'm not going to try catching anymore pokemon or poke ho's.
