I chose "no limitations" because there wasn't an option to allow the purchase of certain weapons with extra paperwork and approval. Currently, you can buy a machine gun if you go through all the proper channels. It can't be a new machine gun, it has to be one made before the ban, but you can still buy one if you're willing to spend a buttload of cash.

Also, just so people are aware, this is a semi-auto rifle:

I have one. My dad has one that originally belonged to my late grandfather. If you ban all semi-auto rifles, this would be an illegal firearm.

This and many like it were carried on the beaches of Normandy. This is an assault rifle. It would be banned if you outlawed semi-auto rifles. Also, this is one of the few guns that actually uses a "clip."

The M-1 Garand! You have to squeeze the trigger for each shot. The worst problem we had with them was the M-1 thumb after you loaded the clip and released the bolt. That really hurt. After a long march the weight of that strap digging into your shoulder was painful. It was no pop gun like Stoner's M-16. We trained on WW 2 carbines, AR-14, AR-16 and the .45 ACP.

Talking to my friends, they don't see the need to carry a weapon to feel protected.
I have a license to conceal and carry. But having a weapon and knowing how to use it isn't the reason why I feel protected.

We already say the general public can't own some weapons, because it's known they're not necessary for a public individuals defense.
So we as a society already say there is a line on the right to bare arms. That's not considered infringement of the second amendment rights.
Why is that?

I know for a fact when I'm carrying my handgun.
I would tactically be at a disadvantage if I was facing a shooter with an AR.
Does that mean I and everyone should carry an AR 24/7, 365? We don't conceal AR's.

I never said that you were.

My point wasn't about protecting ourselves from an imaginary confrontation with a burglar. My point was that people complain about the militarization of law enforcement, but they want to give up the only things that we have to defend ourselves from the government.

Do you know what serves as a huge deterrent to tyranny? A heavily armed populace. Once the guns are gone, there's nothing to stop the government from doing whatever they want, as seen recently in Venezuela and Turkey.
