Poll: Which Player would Most Likely Help the Blazers win a Title THIS Season?

OK, there have been many threads swirling about arms races, rumored deals, potential trading partners/targets, etc. So, time to start a poll...

The requirements are: the player has to be considered both available and attainable (LeBron James is not walking through that door - unless he gets his shit together and leads the Cavs to the finals against the Blazers).

I believe we are in win now mode. The West is a battlefield, with many possible NBA finalists, but right now the Warriors and Blazers are the 1 and 2 seeds and seem to be as likely as anyone to reach the finals. So, I am only looking for immediate, short term help. I don't care if it will cost us a future 1st round pick. I don't care if we have to give up a young guy who is not in the current rotation to replace him with a veteran that can help us NOW.

So, who do you think is the missing piece that can help us win NOW? Or do we even need to add anyone?

I actually believe Wroten could be available for just T. Rob. Philly has enough guards and they are tanking anyway. If we make that deal, then I could see us getting Jermaine Oneal on vet min (releasing Claver).

But if I had to choose from the players you put on the poll, it definitely would be Kevin Martin. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ktylojk It would involve trading CJ, T. Rob, and Claver for just Martin.

We would have 2 roster spots, so I would offer Prince and Jerm deals.

That would give us a damn good bench of Blake, Martin, Prince, Freeland and Kaman.

Afflalo is a proven score with a versatile game that seems like it would fit well with our team. As always is depends on the deal but he is the one in the group that I would consider gambling on the chemistry issue

Edit: Well damn I missed that KMart was on the list but I still lean towards Afflalo. The health of KMart scares me but may be worth the risk for a non gamble type of deal

I would much rather use T. Rob and Barton, but I doubt Minny would be interested in that. The reason is, they don't have any shooters in this scenario. I think they would want CJ, just because he has the ability to shoot from the perimeter and is a playmaker.

I like using WS/48 just to get an idea of where players are. There is usually a strong correlation between that metric and the best players in the league. For these players, here is the data (note: I added CJ to the list & used last year's numbers for K-Mart because he has been injured):

K-Mart is the leader by quite a bit in PER, TS%, and WS/48 although he is the oldest of the bunch.

CJ has almost the same impact on a game as Affalo or Chandler, but has lower shooting percentages. I would trade CJ for K-Mart, but I don't think Affalo or Chandler are worth a change in rosters.

Prince is done, but I would like him over Claver.

I chose Prince because...

• I think he'll actually be available since I think he'll be released.
• he has championship experience.
• he plays defense (surely not as good as he used to, but I assume he is a smart defender still).
• he plays in a position of need.
• great locker room guy.
• can still make another move
• doesn't hurt our future goals.
• I wanted to be a contrarian!

I think this comes down to two men, Afflalo and Martin. And here's why...

Aaron Afflalo is a boy from the hood (Compton) who busted his ass, day in and day out, to make it in the Association. He honed his craft in the gym while his buddies were out doing things normal teens did. Kendrick speaks about it in his song "Black Boy Fly". Who does that sound like to ya'll? To me, it sounds like a certain young baller from the Town named #VideoGameDame. Afflalo knows humility, he knows hard work, and he's a bust ass ball player. He would fit in the team perfectly from a chemistry standpoint, and he has the skill set to fit Stotts' scheme.

On the other hand you have Kevin Martin, arguably the best player of the bunch. He's getting a little long in the tooth, but he's still a lethal scorer. Imagine him coming off the bench. All we need is a guy who can score 20 every 3 games, and he's that guy. I voted K-Mart, but you can't go wrong with either of them.

K-Mart's proven to be pretty healthy these last few seasons. We wouldn't be expecting much of him physically coming off the bench, so I wouldn't predicate my decision based on his injury history.

"Kevin Martin (wrist) and Nikola Pekovic (ankle) were full participants in practice on Monday.
It's clear that Martin's wrist injury is healthy and he should be ready to go soon. There is talk of Martin going through a D-League stint, but the loss of Shabazz Muhammad (abdominal) may change that. If Martin is available, he's worth a look in standard leagues."

I wanted to let others vote before I weighed in. Honestly, I'd be happy with any of the above as it would help our bench, add depth and increase or chances in the playoffs.

That said, I voted for Martin. He's the most dynamic scorer of the bunch. He can shoot from the outside or drive and draw fouls. He gets to the line a lot, where he is a career 87% FT shooter. He would give us a tremendous boost in bench scoring - a role he played, and played well, for an OKC team that won 60 games two seasons ago.

Ultimately, I'll let Neil work his magic, or not. He knows what we need, what's available, what it will cost us and how it will impact team chemistry. What I want doesn't really matter. I'll trust the guy who just got the three year contract extension. He earned it.

Lol for what? They need a PF to tank properly? I think not having a PF helps them tank! Philly is going to tank for at least one more season after this one. They can get long term pieces out of FA, they don't need trades this season to do that.
