Isn't it funny what a year can change? I remember around this time last year, some Blazer fans were opposed to the idea of trading for Harris.

seriously. i wanted that trade so bad. one thing about KP i dont like is he is to close to his players. i think thats one of the reasons we didnt do it

It would have been awesome, but I am pretty sure it wasn't a real possibility. Dallas needed a point guard in return and I am pretty sure Old Kidd >>>>>> Blake + Jack+ Sergio much less any one of them.

Dallas was going to get Kidd. The three-way deal was reported to be this:

Portland: Devin Harris
Dallas: Jason Kidd and Malik Allen
New Jersey: Jarrett Jack, Travis Outlaw, Deaven George, Channing Frye and Jerry Stackhouse.

Here's a less exciting three way: Miami want Amare, but (supposedly) Phoenix doesn't want Marion back. Voila:

Portland gets Marion (for Channing and RLEC)
Miami gets Stoudemire and filler for Beasley and Marion
Phoenix gets RLEC and Beasley

It's pretty boring for us except we rent Marion as a backup for the rest of the season.

I see that as helping two other teams much more than we get helped. Marion for 3 months for 15M in expiring salaries? Not a huge fan.

Assuming Phoenix really wants to save money. They get some decent, cheap young players, and Ji should get them more money.

really, New Jersey would say no? Unless Ryan Anderson has some great value that I'm unaware of, they trade a 32 year old star for a 26 year old star, and a big to boot. They also position themselves to make a splash in the 2010 free agent sweepstakes. Maybe unloading Najera's contract would make them bite.

I would've thought that Phoenix are the ones to say hell no. Unless they're absolutely desperate for money, they would probably be better off waiting until the offseason to do some fullscale rebuilding. What's the point of trading Amare if Shaq and Nash don't go too? and it's unlikely that there will be that much activity mid-season.

In any case, I think it's obvious that I'm addicted to the trade machine...

I didn't see it as that bad of a deal for Phoenix, essentially it's 2 trade rumors thrown into one. The Nets supposedly offered Yi and Anderson, and the ESPN thing had Bayless and Outlaw (of course your version took out Bayless and put in Sergio). It would save them a lot of money with decent prospects littered throughout. I'm not sure of Amare's value around the league, but it doesn't seem THAT high right now.

I figured it was bad from the Nets perspectives, because I saw some of their fans saying they wouldn't even wanna trade Yi and Anderson for Amare, throw in VC and Dooling, their fans would say hell no. But their fans are different from ownership and probably just as big of homers as us

Surprisingly plausible! I think Phoenix can do better, though. I think NJ would jump on that with one caveat: apparently Thorn thinks Stoudemire is a C, and their young C (Brooke Lopez) is looking pretty damn good.
