someone close this pointless thread down.

Why?

We are discussing the slight nudity in some avatars, which is a valid concern. I am also having fun messing with Legacy and co by reversing the objectification of women that appear in their avatars.

I don't really care about gay people kissing. I turn off the avy/sig function anyways so it doesn't bother me. lol

Why?

We are discussing the slight nudity in some avatars . . .
I'd say the last few posters have more than "slight nudity" in their avatars. We've got some stuff in this thread that is downright close to pornography.

We are working on new avatar guidelines. According to Denny we will likely make the new rules so that that fallow basic prime-time TV guidelines in which no "naughty" bits are showing and contain no sexual activity (kissing included).

FTR, I was just playing around and was never going to change my avatar to the one above.

I don't need to look at hot girls in avatars. I can just turn around and look at my girlfriend

Hey, if you can post topless guys then topless gals should be ok too! :)

As I posted in the other thread this isn't a work/family site. That seems obvious. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that is how it should be, but that is how it is.

U go grl

Hey, same with your avatar. I see nothing wrong with it, but I should be able to have a topless/bottomless gal if you can have one of a guy.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread so I'll just ask this here:

I tried to post a GIF the other day but couldn't get it to work - how do you post a gif and not have it turn into a mere picture or internet link?

Hi, I'm stupid! :hello: Please help.

You just post it like any other pic. If it's a animated gif it should be animated. If you saved it though you have to make sure that you saved it as the correct gif.

I think this discussion happened yesterday.

The basic response was that you can turn off avatars or get Firefox and have the individual images you don't like blocked.

Personally, I think nothing screams "I'm a cyber-dork" like putting a picture of a hot chick in your avatar. The fact I'm even using "hot chick" and "avatar" in the same sentence makes me feel like a freakin' nerd.

We have a stickied thread on this forum (as opposed to a sticky thread, which it might also be) where you can scroll through hot chick photos at your leisure.

Or, you can do what normal people do and keep your sports and porn surfing separate.

Looks like I suddenly became a cyber-dork! I've been working at it such a long time! Trying to hold back the tears!

And so the exodus to yet another new Blazers message board draws near once again, as this board makes the fatal decision to imitate BBF's error of suppressing the masses in order to please the control freaks.

I just looked at every avatar in this thread and there are none that you (or your ridiculously over-protected children) wouldn't see on magazine covers in the checkout line at Safeway every day.

Aside from a couple of known homophobes here, no posters seem to really care SINCE THEY ARE INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO SIMPLY TURN OFF AVATARS.

Maybe we could hold an online class for those who actually want to avoid seeing these avatars, but it's fairly clear their real goal is to CONTROL OTHERS AND CENSOR FREE EXPRESSION.

Good timing at least.

The playoffs will provide activity on all boards so I can sample how they work for this summer/next season.

And for those who aren't lucky enough to have a brain like that....

Oh please, stop being a drama queen.

I was on BBB.net for several years and there is a huge difference between the two boards. We are not asking you to stop taking politics, or too not cuss, or anything else of that nature. We are asking that some posters have a little common courtesy for the others on the board and not put offensive images in their avatars were everyone else can view them, even people who don't want too. If anyone wants to post a pic of two girls, two guys, two people, etc making out in a NSFW thread then cool, go right ahead and do that.

People shouldn't have to turn off sigs and avatars just so they can cruise basketball threads without being a offended.

All I know is if somebody tells me I cant have Alba's ass anymore there are gonna be issues :ohno:

Right back at ya, Your Highness.

I realize you live in Kansas, and probably very well-travelled, and likely get your world-view from local folks like the Wizard of OZ, but there is nothing in any of these avatars that a normal person with a healthy outlook on life would find offensive. This isn't the 1700's and we don't burn witches anymore.

This is all about behavior control and censorship in order to make others follow your own personal morality code, and your denials of this are childishly ridiculous when one considers YOUR avatar.

None of these avatars are forbidden on BBF by the way, as they are a much less prudish site than this one. They just feel cuss-words reflect a mind with low conversational values, and they're correct on that.

If a few homophobes or slackers who cheat their employers are uncomfortable here then they should go away. Or they could invest the 30 seconds it takes to turn off avatars. Or they could stop ignoring their children and stop stealing from their employers. Few people disgust me more than thieves and child-abusers.

It's not like there's any shortage of appropriate places for them to post, and they've made it clear they don't fit in here anyway.

Hard to believe a fourth board exodus is in the making but that's what happens when people refuse to learn from past mistakes.

If this is the type of stuff S2 wants to allow on their site, then that's fine. But what eventually will happen is that people will find sites that are "work friendly", and start viewing those while at work, and then S2 at home. Gradually they'll migrate full time to those "work friendly" sites, and S2 will have lost a member.

Please do.

The sooner the better.

I'll even help you look for one as a gesture of good will.

Ok drama queen...this argument isnt in the same ballpark as bbf. If there is any "exodus" over this issue I think it will just be you

I just re-read the entire thread and the original poster, a Bulls fan from MO, is the only poster for censorship of avatars. All other posters either pointed out how he could block them (he refused, which proves it's all about him forcing his warped morality on others) or made fun of his prudishness, which does seem pretty comical for a supposed "19 year old man".

So why are Denny Crane and Anima preparing to use "primetime tv" (controlled by the FCC specifically to protect preteens) as a guideline for a board whose posters are all adults? :dunno:

We're on the "Road to Pathetic" once again. :sigh:

We have no rule about avatars, but when people complain about them, we rightly should consider the complaints and look for the way to make the most people happy.

That people are saying they won't browse the site in certain venues is not a good thing.

I don't see that people are going to see a cuss word from across the room, but they don't have to be too far away to see the avatars.

It's written in our rules that we want the site to be work safe. To this end, we mark threads and videos as NSFW so people don't end up clicking on them and getting in trouble at work or school. We don't forbid them, though, and there is a reasonable fix for those.

I don't think many of us want to see this site turn into a porn site. It's a sports site.

Yeah, it's the exact same arguement. :sigh:

1 single whiner suddenly gets a couple of Mods to silence everyone who offends his personal moral code. Arguments ensue, insults are thrown, posters banned, other posters leave, board dies. I've seen it happen 4 times in 6 years now, always to the disbelief of longtime posters like yourself.

You clearly, as usual, underestimate Blazers Fans. It's us against the world baby!

I've never promoted leaving a board, and am not doing so now. I was one of the last to leave BBF but with only mgb there to talk to it got a bit lonely. I don't like doing it as it's a minor hassle, and I'm a pretty lazy guy by nature. I'm trying to nip it in the bud before it gets to that point because once that ball gets rolling you can read the writing on the wall.

I'm just pointing out the obvious fact that most people come here to express themselves openly without being babysat and coddled by schoolmarms.

Closing threads, banning members, censoring speech or censoring avatars kills message boards. :tsktsk:

It's all the same slippery slope and there's nothing unique on any message board that can't be duplicated immediately on another message board.

Very diplomatic of you to use the word many instead of any. Does anyone actually want hardcore porn in their avatars and signatures? Wouldn't that just be creepy?

When you say That people are saying they won't browse the site in certain venues is not a good thing I have to disagree. It's a great thing for all of us as human beings and Americans if people at work actually work, and if parents with children in the room actually spend that time with their children.

I'm sick and tired of being punished by a failing economy and the eventual crimes of delinquent, uneducated children who have never known love and guidance. Rather than whining, these posters need to log off, man up, and carry their weight.

The real Denny Crane would agree with me. :drumroll:

Nobody has done anything remotely like that, and obviously nobody ever will.

We don't need to be policed because as you point out nobody wants hardcore porn here.

But we don't want it to be all My Little Pony either.

The first sign you have a problem is when you're trying to prevent a problem that doesn't exist.
