Portland is still one of the league's youngest teams

Funny to think Phoenix is only a half year younger than us, yet seems light years away from where our team is. I suppose if you take Tyson Chandler out of the equation they're probably the youngest in the league, though.

I was curious to see how the league has changed--it seems to be getting younger. Looks like it has been a little:

10 years ago we also had the youngest team.
In 1997 we were 8th youngest.

Aside from the 2000-2003 era, it seems like Portland has been young for a long damned time. I guess that's what teams casting about for franchise talent (who can't attract free agents) do.

Interesting correlation between age of the five oldest teams and their dominance, totally makes sense but look at that. 1. Cleveland, 2. San Antonio, 3. Golden State, 4. Houston, 5. Dallas... One of those is not like the others, I guess Dirk being like 50 probably skews the mean of that Dallas team.

Presents an interesting question of causation/correlation. Of course the teams having superstars in their prime tend to be the best, but they also attract all the ring chasers, which brings their average up significantly. (e.g., I'm not sure that Frye and Calderon are the reason Cleveland is so good)

Aside from the 2000-2003 era, it seems like Portland has been young for a long damned time. I guess that's what teams casting about for franchise talent (who can't attract free agents) do.

Portland has eschewed the traditional "vets" to accompany the young studs.

It was only one game, but I found myself really coming around on him. I think he can play an Andre Miller with better defense kind of role off the bench.

I think age and experience also trend to the leagues best/better defensive teams. have been hoping as our players gained experience that the defense would improve. ET and Josef by addition also, but we look improved on that end as well. Houston an outlier maybe cause of pace.

I'm curious where the info is coming from because this is the third list by average age I've seen. One I saw last night had Portland as the third-youngest, and one last week had us as the fourth-youngest (that part makes sense because players were cut within that time).

But regardless, pretty cool to see we're amongst the youngest. Let it bake!

I hope so. But I see a maddening combination of Diaw and Aminu. Diaw in terms of being able to use his body well and craftier than he should be. Aminu in terms of thinking he can do more than he really can, and often on the edge of turning the ball over. If he can increase his Diaw and decrease his Aminu he'll win me over.
