Portland signs Blake

In an interesting twist I bet that Blake will take Mo's number #25. He was #2 with us before, #5 will the piss and purple and #25 with the Warriors.

Olshey must be banking on some serious improvement from the likes of McCollum, Barton and Crabbe because on paper, right now, the bench isn't that much better. I guess Kaman is an improvement over Leonard/Freeland..but only offensively.

For his job security, I hope this 'bank' pays off. It appears he has no interest in adding talent and improving something that was a weak spot the last two years.

What happens to Mo now? With the Parsons max contract offer, does this mean Mo can't sign with Dallas anymore for anything besides vet min? He shoulda just stayed loyal with us..

Howard won't make Kaman his bitch like he did Freeland.

Anyone who didn't see this coming wasn't paying attention. It was mo or Blake the whole time.

Kiss mo goodbye, this must mean they have faith in Barton and McCollum providing a spark off the bench.

Blake will fit stotts system well.

Mo: 10pts, 4asst, 37% 3pt, 110 Defensive rating
Blake: 7pts, 6asst, 38% 3pt, 108 Defensive rating

If you believe in the ability of Barton, Robinson, CJ, and Kaman to score the ball, then wouldn't you rather have Blake as PG?

I thinks its becoming more and more clear that between the 2 of them they can at the very least make up for Mo's scoring

I am SHOCKED by the number of disappointed Lakers fans that they didn't get Blake back. So I guess that's a plus!

They will have a room exception too. But they are trying to convince him to take the minimum

I think Blake is an improvement over Mo for this team. Blake is more of a true PG where Mo likes to jack up a lot of shots.

I don't really understand this signing. I thought we promised the BAE to LeBron. Maybe LBJ has agreed to take the vet minimum?

Easily the worst decision by the Blazers in several years.

Pretty much cancels out any productive moves made this summer.

A mind-boggling blunder of epic proportions.

I was really hoping for Kirk Hinrich but oh well. I hope CJ comes though.

one thing I do like is Lillard can play together with Blake with Blake handling the ball. Blake is also a better defender than Mo

I absolutely despise Blake, as his constant PT represented everything I hated about Nate but this is actually a good signing. Our biggest weakness was BY FAR the bench last year and with Kaman and Blake that's improved. As much as it seems we all hate him, he is a prototypical back-up PG. Can hit the three, plays defense decently (at least on his own man), and looks to distribute. With Kaman, we have an actual big-man who can score off of the bench. Is he an All-Star? No. But he averaged nearly 10ppg off the bench.

Unless we picked up a player like Monroe or someone of his caliber, this next season's improvement was ALWAYS going to be based off of the improvement of CJ, T-Rob, Will, Crabbe, and Dorell. Look at the contracts Olshey has handed to these guys...Kaman is practically a 1-year deal and Blake's salary is so low it will not impact our cap next year as it will be easily moved if he does opt-in and we need his $2M. These are veteran players on decent contracts at positions of need. Augustin, Ridnour, Chalmers, etc all likely wanted longer deals and as I've said before Neil isn't putting anyone on the books past next off-season unless they move the needle.

It might not be flashy, but Kaman/T-Rob/Wright/CJ/Blake with Barton in there as well is not a bad bench unit to run with.

I like the move. Olshey isn't trying to pull a Whitsett and get the best team money can buy.

All moves are gradual like moving pawns. There is no desperation to any of his moves.

Olshey for pres!!!

Sometimes I really don't understand people on this board

1) Blake is at least comparable to Mo, which of whom would have chose Dallas over Portland if only the BAE was being offered.
2) Blake's deal is basically a 1 year deal. He might opt-out just like Mo did.
a. Hinrich/Augustin or anyone of that caliber wouldnt have done that
b. Keeps flexibility for 2015
3) Blake will promote more of the growth of the young players, rather than stunting their growth like Mo did

Its a win

And Blake badly wanted to be here.

Blake is one of those lunchpail hard workers. He is a good guy to have in the locker room.

I had not heard any details on Blake's contract. I'm not sure how you can say he will promote more growth. I just wanted someone new, not vanilla steve blake.

its 2 year BAE with player option after year 1

Might the Blazers still be able to improve at the back up SF spot with a trade?
