Portland signs Blake

Last year Blake averaged 9 ppg with LAL, ad 6.5 with GSW, for a season average of 7 ppg.

Kaman has never averaged below 10.5ppg since his second season.

Why is 16 ppg combined such a stretch? They would both have to perform below last year's averages to hit that mark.

Two bald white guys!

I'm totally fine with Blake re-signing. I thought he was a good target to trade for last season, so getting him for the BAE is a nice move. We needed a better point guard than Mo. Someone who could play with Lillard. Obviously Blake isn't a star, but the kind of contracts that were being thrown around were getting out of hand, and we got him on the cheap. Plus, it sounds like he REALLY wanted to be here, which is nice.

Always liked Blake. He is a good system player - and his ability to catch and shooti is something that will work with this team. Add reasonable ball protection, ability to pass and being a hard worker.

I am not a big fan of Kobe but I think his opinion on team-mates is something to pay attention to - and he was furious that Blake was traded to GSW last year.

yeah, what you said is about where I am at with it, would like to see a bench consolidation trade and maybe try to get someone like Thad Young or Henson if possible

Yeah... we need a scoring wing.

I would deal any combination of Crabbe/Leonard/CJ/Freeland to acquire one.

I wouldn't say it is a stretch but it is a great over/under. Almost on the spot for what I think they do.

But to answer your question, I think people see less minutes here for them.

Hmm... Jordan Crawford? Want to take a risk? He's a free agent, but I read somewhere that GS would be open to a sign and trade. I hate his style, but he can score. He also played with Blake last season. We have a glut of questionable backup SGs with CJ, Will, and Crabbe. We need to make a decision on what to do with them.

Anyone surprised Blake got a player option vs a team option? It may have taken that to get him but I am slightly surprised due to Olshey seeming to want to have as many contracts as possible come off the cap next summer.

Crawford looked like total crap with the Warriors. I would stay away.

I like this move. I think he's a good fit for the rest of the guys on the team and for Stotts offense. Solid. And I love guys who want to be here and who turn down the Lakers. Welcome back.

Those whining about their needles not moving (there are pills for that), or this offseason being uncreative, don't strike me as being in touch with reality. I thought it was common knowledge that the improvement of the younger guys (of which there are many) would be the single biggest factor on whether the team takes another step next year. If guys like CJ, TRob, Freeland and Barton improve I think we have a decent bench (I really think at least a couple will), and we already have a very good starting five.

I wonder if we could sign and trade Mo (packaged with another guy to clear a roster spot) and get a defensive wing in return? Other than that I can't complain.

I will miss Mo, though, I think he was pretty underrated by some.

Compare Steve to Mo... Same age.

Per 36
Stat: Steve - Mo
Pts: 14.2 - 9.1
Ast: 6.3 - 7.4
Tov: 2.9 - 2.5
FG%: .417 - .377
FT%: .876 - .767
3pt%: .369 - .376
Advanced
PER: 11.8 - 11.0
USG%: 20.5 - 13.8
ORTG: 102 - 103
DRTG: 110 - 109

I think it's basically a push.

This off-season is about strengthening the bench, period. Neil had to find guys that fit in Stotts system. I think our bench will be better by natural progression iof the young guys to begin with, and in addition. Blake+Kaman > Mo + Watson.

Statistically you're right, but stylistically I don't think so. Blake plays a completely different game.

I just thought of this... "Blake to the Future"

Can one of you Photoshop nerds write it in the "Back to the Future" font and sub in Steve's face for MJF?
