Portland signs Blake

whoops didn't realize that video was already posted. Haven't had a chance to read the whole thread.

I know I'm in the minority, but I really like both moves. I think Kaman is a smart, skilled player who will fit in well with us. And Blakey? If I can ever get past the fact he was a F'L*ker, he'll be a solid addition to our bench. What does this team need most? A distributor who can play a little defense. Also, Blakey can shoot the three, which keeps teams honest on defense.

Both are smart players and good passers, which is what Stotts' system requires.

These are not the best individual players, but they fit our system well and neither breaks the bank.

I don't think you're in the minority. I think there are only a few people who have been very vocal about being unhappy with these moves.

I'm happy if for no other reason than we didn't sign Mario Chalmers.

Welcome to the minority! I've been wondering when someone else would show up!

The Spurs made marketable players out of Patty Mills and Boris Diaw, for fucks sake.

Maybe it's not about the big splash but the smart moves. At least it's not Luke Babbitt or Nolan Smith or Ronnie Price or Sasha Pavolic or Jared Jeffries or Eric Maynor.

Get players that fit your system, and imho, these two do. Are they the most sexiest of picks? No, but neither was Lopez.

Nice to see you back Mistrel. You remember our legendary Tom Brady arguments on the BFF?

All arguments have merged into a haze by this point. I'm pretty sure you mean a mid-2000s discussion over the merits of Tom Brady where I doubtless said he was good but not all-time great and you, because he was white and "underdoggish," I'm sure claimed he was the greatest ever and then got lucky when Brady absolutely took off after that.

I still think Brady was good but not great back then, but stepped up to a much higher level in the latter half of that decade. Now I'd put him in the top-five of all-time.

tl;dr Adam Morrison.

Kaman is okay provided he is healthy, plus it is better than signing him for 8 million like people suggested we do last summer.

I hate Steve Blake period, you just made 4.2 million for 2 years worth of work, wear a fucking suit. Plus we should be allowing our bench to be the change of pace, let Barton, McCollum, Leonard and Robinson run they are clearly sloppy and perform poorly in Stotts half court system but I bet they would do well in an up tempo attacking style.

Why does adding Blake stop them from doing that? Won't they have a better chance of beating out Steve as opposed to someone you may like a little better? Maybe Blake was added for insurance just in case Will and CJ can't cut it.

It seems like the valid salary is 2.1 that we should be talking about, not the total if he sticks around 2 years. We did not pay much to get him.

Blake has always been a slow half court guard, Mo would be a better fit for this attacking style upbeat attack. Instead we are going to see people like Barton get buried on the bench because Stotts will run a slow half court offense with Kaman in the post and try and do essentially the same thing as the starters which Barton does not fit because he is not a good 3 point shooter.

You mean the one man attack.

You don't know that Barton will get buried on the bench. My point was that maybe the move was made to allow for CJ and Barton to play together. Maybe Blake will be content to be there "just in case", where another FA would not be happy sitting....
I guess we will see how it plays out.....

Yeah... Mo wasn't, and Blake was burdened by Nate's style. At least Blake knows the fundamentals of passing a basketball.

Kind of a surprise to me--this will be the 10th time he's switched teams in his 11 year NBA career. He's the journey man's journey man. A guy who's easy to add, and also easy to let go.
Every free agent contract he's ever signed has been with Portland, lol...

It's not like he's getting a max contract. Signing role players allows us to keep our core intact. Blake will be a role player

is our core good enough though? With players like Blake along side them, I mean

Probably not, but the choice wasn't between Blake or a franchise-changing superstar.

All you can do is take a good core and keep making incremental additions to it until you find an opportunity to make a major change. That may be a draft pick that pans out well past expectations or a young player suddenly flourishing or finding a disgruntled star that you can offer the right pieces to acquire.

I already shared my predictions on what would happen if Blake was signed. Now all I have left to do is sit back and watch the carnage.

Victim #1 will be Lillard, pulled quad or maybe separated shoulder.
Victim #2 the teams record
Victim #3 Lillard re-aggravating injury
Victim #4 First round pick as Olshey scrambles to keep us competitive
Victim #5 The Playoffs as we miss the playoffs finishind 39-43.
Victim #6 The fans as LA leaves as a free agent
Victim #7 A second first round pick as Olshey desperately tries to get this team back into the playoff picture without LA.
Victim #8 The Playoffs again
Victim #9 The fans as Lillard begins to show frustration with the franchise
Victim #10 Neil Olshey after he gets fired

Thank you Neil you fucked us and yourself in the process.

As long as we're bumping old threads, this one's got some pretty good comedy value.

I like the move. Olshey isn't trying to pull a Whitsett and get the best team money can buy.

All moves are gradual like moving pawns. There is no desperation to any of his moves.

Olshey for pres!!!

Yeah that's about right
