I can confirm one rich urban kid plays on that team. I know another person on that team as well.

rich people and their hobbies...eesh. ;)

I wonder if they flop like MLS players do.

Well it's funny you mention that. Normally in college level and club (post college but not pro) the sport is self officiated, and there are often very controversial calls. The rules say a defender can "contest" or "no contest" a call and both have different outcomes. But in the "pro ultimate" league there are actually refs to make these calls.

Our MLU team is 0-4 with a -16 goal differential. I'm ashamed to be a Portlander...

16 bucks for a ticket to tomorrow night's game. Seriously? $16 bucks?

I'd guess it's for renting the field and their time. They don't get a whole lot of fans I suspect.

The fact that I'm not sure if I'd rather watch these frisbee games or a WNBA game, sums up my feelings about this.

The fact that I know unequivocally which I'd prefer to watch sums up my feelings about the WNBA.

Ultimate is damn fun -- used to play in Portland Ultimate's spring league. Underneath the dorky exterior it's a pretty deep sport, with the fluidity of soccer and the big-play potential of football. Problem is, that dorky exterior can be pretty damn thick... :D

I do give them credit for trying, and I wish em the best.

I dig ultimate frisbee. Never associated it as a rich white kid sport. I played consistently for a couple of years . . . we would play every Saturday at Irving Park in the NE. The players were not rich kids, they were 20-40s kind of Oregonian hippie types. They were mostly white. I also played frisbee gold in another lifetime . . . that crowd was a younger stoner crowd.

Surprised the game is associated with rich kids. (Not like it is expensive or you have to pay for a personal trainer) Here on the westside fencing is big . . . now that is a sport I associate with rich white suburb kids.
