"Hey you kids, get off my hand bouncy ball lawn!"
Here's my idea:

Start holding teams like the Knicks accountable for sucking so bad and figure out why the East isn't as competitive. The league stepped in when the 76ers actually had a plan to fix things (right or wrong), why not step in and end the Knicks run of futility? If the Nets can climb out of the hole they dug for themselves after trading all those picks for Pierce and Garnett then it's certainly possible for other teams to figure it out too.

Playing an in-season tournament, reseeding the conference finalists, having play-in games, or even just taking the 16 best records does nothing to fix the reason why these things are being discussed.

The only way to fix the Knicks is to get rid of Dolan....everyone who plays there says it

Then they should force him to sell or at the very least hire someone to make the decisions over him.

The league should be about making a fair environment for teams to thrive, not about micromanaging bad franchises or owners who cant figure it out IMO. If the east, and Dolan with the knicks cant figure it out I dont think it should be up to the league to do it for them.

There should be enough mid season tournaments that every team wins one.

"Tonight on TNT, the February mid mid season tournament champion vs the March almost end of the month season tournament champion!"

Next up.....

I agree that it should be fair for all teams but I also think as a business that it would be better for the league if a team like the Knicks were slightly more relevant or at least relevant every once in awhile, as every team should be. My goal is to find out why certain teams continue to fail instead of just excusing their failures by changing the rules. Micromanaging might be a bit much and not quite what I was going for but there has to be some way to hold teams accountable for what's going on almost 20 years of ineptitude.

One thing I'd like to see is max and super max contracts not fully counting against the cap if you're the team that drafted that player. Then a team like Charlotte last summer could keep Kemba for about the amount they ended up giving to Terry Rozier instead of losing their "franchise" player because paying him a super max would cripple their franchise when they aren't that good with him. That way they can continue to build with him instead of making it so they wouldn't be able to field a team around him.

There has to be some logical reasons as to why so many East teams can't figure things out.

I'll say that I'm open to changes in the sport...I think we have more parity now than I can remember...like to see the challenge call only used in the end of games ….like to see intentional fouls become an automatic 2 pts and the ball as well. As far as the playoffs...to me the best teams are going to be there in the end anyway...it just gives the underdog a shot...I doubt there will be many upsets but you know they want a California finals....that's probably what this is all about....two teams in the finals that have the same homecourt...move the Grizzlies, Clippers or Pelicans to Seattle...probably not a popular view but I'd like to see them bring back hand checking and let them play defense again.

Serious question: Will these proposed changes appeal to anyone other than diehard soccer fans? Is that the audience the league is chasing, assuming even Morey can't screw that up?

If it makes them money that'll be all that matters

I as well as about everyone i know has been advocating this for years. Problem is the idea and why. Lots of people want a shorter season with no B2B's and better quality competition. But this might not be what we were thinking.

Impeach Adam Silver. This is treasonous.

These proposals seem like gimmicks that don't address the real problems with the modern NBA.

To fix the NBA the first and most important thing they need to do is re-negotiate with NBAPA and don't go back to playing until all contracts are Non-Guaranteed.
An NBA player having to play hard (including defense) to earn their paycheck is the number one problem. The effort level between modern players and decades past is glaring.
No one wants to watch players moping up and down the floor jacking threes and playing no defense.

Secondly they need to address the officiating. Refs interject themselves way too much into games. They need to let play happen and let the players play defense.

If the NBA did this, then they would be on the right track to making the NBA much more watchable - non of this in-season tournament circus needed.
