I have a really hard time blaming Neil for the Afflalo trade.

1. He didn't know that Wes was going to tear his Achilles. The season was essentially over at that point.

2. Afflalo got hurt and really shouldn't have played the rest of the year. He was a shell in the playoffs.

3. Neil didn't expect LMA to check out in the playoffs. Maybe he should have. I blame Neil/Paul for LMA more than I blame them for Afflalo.

4. They ended up with Barton, who many Denver fans hate, TRob (who is already gone), Victor Claver (who is no longer in the NBA), and a pick that ended up being the 15th and they took Juan Hernangomez.

It was a gamble that he took to try to give us a shot at contending, and our season exploded in his face. He didn't know Wes was going to get hurt, he didn't know that LMA was a spineless piece of shit, and he didn't know that Afflalo was going to hurt his shoulder. What can you do?

I honestly cannot believe this is still a real discussion.

First its over a year old. Second Hindsight is 20/20. Third and this is a BIG third. Isn't there a MUCH SEXIER and MORE RECENT trade we can dissect all day long?
I'm pretty sure everyone and our grandmother has clearly voice our opinion about the Afflalo trade at LEAST a dozen times no?
I could probably just go down a list from memory.

Stren.... didnt think it was good
Natebishop... thought it was good
Me....thought it was good
Sinobas... thought it was not good
etc
etc
etc

We should all know how each other feels about this like the back of our own hand these days no?

I am in no way saying you cant beat a dead horse, but man, the live ones are sooo much more fun aren't they?

Uhhhhh... WHAT? You obviously didn't do the research. I have ALWAYS been in the court of "Great fucking trade. Bad fucking luck."

I am usually the biggest fighter against those who say the trade was bad. How could you get that so wrong, OB?

The real bad issue with the Afflalo trade is, NO was not sold that CJ would develop into a positive impact player soon. If NO thought CJ was ready, the Afflalo trade was not necessary

If Wes had not been hurt and Afflalo was the BUSG, CJ would have been buried on the bench.

And that would have been a bad thing.

I think one of the reasons to get Affalo and not take a chance with CJ that year was because Affalo was known for, and was, a really good defender. CJ was not at that point and time and is still not.

Regardless of what CJ/Barton had shown (or not shown) at that point in time, we actually had depth at SG, whereas the only legit SF we had was Nic. I was always skeptical of the trade because I felt that - if we had to make a trade with DEN - Wilson Chandler should have been the target. I wasn't crazy about that either, and maybe DEN didn't want to trade him (though I find it hard to believe they'd balk at trading Chandler over Afflalo), but it seemed so obvious that we needed SF depth more than SG depth.

Olshey did A LOT to improve my opinion of him by trading Plumlee for Nurkic - but if you score everything equally as either a plus or minus, I think he probably comes out on the negative side. Luckily for him, impact does factor in, and Nurkic's impact is drowning out everything else.

Agreed: I wanted Chandler instead of Afflalo; however I was still happy with the trade at the time. Then bad luck happened.

I guess I am more looking at is as "why did we sign him at all" versus "We signed him for cheaper" - he's too expensive at any price.
Too expensive until now i guess ..... Right?
Gonna be lucky they have him now.

Looks like the same player to me
Sorry. I guess blind is blind. And Haters gonna Hate. The level of hate for Meyers is just crazy. Every player on that team can make a mistake and it's "Oh well... He'll get it next time" But if Meyers makes the same mistake or misses one shot it's "He's a loser". It's constant and they will be seeing his value now in the next 7 games. It's times like this that make a player. Leonard will have to step up.

Ohhh yeah. Fish on!!!! Lol

I thought about this but I don't think we re-sign afflalo, so cj would have got his chance regardless. Cj is an no pick, he would have got a chance eventually for sure. I think for this reason afflalo was a stop gap until cj came into his own.

I'd take Bill Smackledackle at the YMCA over Meyers.

We are not lucky to have him.
This is just blind hate. The guy does plenty out on the floor that is good. Is he a starter in this league? No. But he will be a serviceable backup for a number of years. Lots of much worse options around the league.

It's actually not just Blind hate it's LAUGHABLE at best.

I know, I'm laughing most of the time. Isn't it great?
