Mine is that we don't have the 8th seed all season long. We have the 7th at times but we lose out on the playoffs well before the last night.
Fuck the 8th seed, I actually want a draft pick in the top ten this year ... that said, "good job, good effort" of course most nights is nice to see, but I'm happy to see them lose the battle to maybe have a chance at winning a war further down the line.
I'm not sure where you came to this conclusion. Looking at the past couple of drafts, I can only count one or two late lottery players that could be considered difference makers in each draft. The draft is honestly more of a crapshoot than free agency imo.The tenth player in this draft has a pretty damned good shot at being more of a difference maker than 75% of the guys currently under contract.
Rebuilding a team is not the overnight operation some of you appear to think it is.
The good teams aren't built by tanking and loser attitude.
I want to see them win as many games as possible, as far as I'm concerned I'd rather not have a pick in the first round and make the playoffs. If we keep rebuilding year afrer year until it's in our DNA, hoping for a high draft pick even when we're playing well it's just pathetic and not how good teams are built.
The pieces are here, Lillard, Aldridge, Batum - the first two wouldn't be available with the 10th pick, Batum was available late in the 20s.
When we got the 1st pick for Oden it turned out a bust.
What I'm trying to say is that you can't really plan the future, the Spurs took Manu and Parker very late, players like Ibaka or Maynor of the Thunder were also late picks. But you don't play to lose when you already have a good team, that's definitely not the way to go.
The Hell if they aren't. The Thunder intentionally kept their win totals low for several years, trading veterans and going young even after they drafted Durant, because they knew they needed a couple more difference makers. The Grizzlies tanked (or just sucked?) for years stockpiling high picks in the hope that one day they'd have enough talent to compete. Then they got lucky with Marc Gasol and made a few good trades. Same goes for the Clippers, tank-o-rama for several years, then get lucky with some strategic trades to push you over the hump.
This isn't fucking rocket science: Teams with the best talent are the ones competing for titles. If you're in a small market that isn't all that attractive to free agents, the best way to acquire assets is through the draft, then those players either become guys you rely on, or they become trade chips to help you acquire the players you need.

And how's it working out for the kings, twolves, raptors, cavs of the world?? All these quality draft picks?? I mean seriously guys get a clue. It's like being a chicken little almost. Not to mention the revenue from even two home playoffs games is huge for franchise.
It's embarrassing some of the comments I see here.
Every time I think of us not having a draft pick I get sad. Cause I like the draft. It's fun watching all these guys with boundless potential join the team. Then I look at guys on our team like Babbitt and Leonard that were drafted around where our pick might be if it didn't go to the Bobcats and I'm not very optimistic about anyone we draft at that spot helping us any time soon. I think signing another decent veteran for whatever cap space we have left after resigning Hickson (or signing a different free agent big man) would be much more likely to improve this team and I think that's much more likely to happen if we make the playoffs.

None of what you're saying matters though. The team we have now is winning. They're exceeding your expectations and it is what it is. We're not going to get a draft pick this year. But we have five rookies NOW to develop as the year goes on. Also, Babbitt is developing well and will be a better player at the end of the year than he is now. Lillard will be better and even better next season once he's had a chance to figure things out. He's playing against his idols and winning. It's a lot for him to process. He's having a better rookie year than Durant did. Batum is becoming a better player every night as well. The current core will be a better team next year even if we added no pieces at all. A taste of the playoffs or of barely missing the playoffs will give the players something to shoot for when training camp begins. Oh, I forgot to mention Leonard. He is going to be very good in 2-3 years. And then we add pieces with our cap space. That's just the way it is, Nik. Accept it. If you want to be a Kings fan or Cavs fan, fine. They're adding pieces through the draft every year. Enjoy.
Go Blazers
If you're satisfied with a team that is OK, but will never be great (i.e. in serious position to contend) then fuck it, we're set.
I'll be curious to see if your tone changes in 3 months after the brutal stretch of the schedule we have coming up. The law of averages are about to catch up with this team.
I keep bringing up the years Portland lost in the first round for a stretch of 6 years in a row; then made it to the wcf two times after. Our own team did this. So our team proven your statement incorrect.
A different era, different CBA and those WCF appearances happened after a series of massive trades by Trader Bob. But then again, back then Paul was willing to outspend the rest of the league when it came to salary, I doubt that's his plan this time around.
