Watching this game, I can honestly say that this starting line-up would give us the best chance to win a game..

well its preseason.. this is where u try to get things goin smoother

Stat of the night- Every player on the Nets that played logged at least one turnover, including Gill who played only 3 mins. :(

Wow this got exciting.

CDR for a 3, 2 points down, 14 to play.

House loses it... bounces it off his knees.

CDR is stripped. Nets have to foul. Nets are getting BOO'ED now.

Man I thought CDR was going to make something happen..

wow our defense was so bad. the team was treating eddie house like he was ben wallace at the 3 pt line.

I'm not disappointed, we didn't let the Celtics break away and open up a huge lead despite being down for a while in the 4th. This team has shown in the past 3 games that it is capable of performing under pressure. Which is a pleasant surprise, considering all the young guys.

We lost the the Celtics who started JR Giddens, didn't play Pierce, Garnett, or Allen...and we had our full roster.

Make no mistake about it, it's going to be a grim season.

where was the defense on House and Allen? What the heck was going on?

The Nets' interior defense must have been pretty solid, though. Look at the lines from all the Celtics bigs: Heck, let's include the SFs also. Perkins, Powe, Giddens, Scal, G. Davis, B. Walker, D. Miles, and P. O'Bryant TOTALLED 30 points on 10-29 shooting, and 17-24 from the line in 136 minutes. Nine of those points came on three three-pointers from Veal.

Was the perimeter defense just horrible, or was it just one of those days?

The biggest stat of the game was turnovers (26-14 in "favor" of NJ). NJ outshot them from two, 54% to 46%, out rebounded them by 15 (45-30). But it's hard when you dribble or pass the ball to the other team and give up a host of threes.

Positives from this game include the all round play of Lopez (excellent), the second straight excellent offensive game from Yi, Carter's mid-season form, Dooling's debut (impressive even if he looked tentative at times) and the fact that I don't believe the team will be committing 26 turnovers in a game in January.

They have to defend well enough early in the season to get the stops and transition baskets that will allow them to stay in games despite what is certain to be a lot of miscues and mistakes in the half court offense, the place where familiarity and practiced timing are so important. I'm still optimistic about the team, even if this game had less to like than the other two.

but, that was without a set rotation, without najera or hayes, and without vc and devin in the 4th, and we barely lost. it won't be as bad as it seems.

fun game to be at. painful in the 4th, but fun nontheless

I think it was some of both. For some reason they gave Eddie House too much room to shoot. But Tony Allen was having one of those games. He got going and was making some tough shots and also the Nets kept fouling him and sending him to the free throw line.

Tony Allen is really going to be a star if he can stay healthy, but he's very injury prone. Eddie House...the Nets know the deal with him, what the f! Veal just loves playing in NJ and he got the mins to show it tonight. The Nets will face Boston again very soon, I guess we'll see if they learned anything from tonight's game.

Our roster (including starters) lost to a Celtics team without the big 3 because we didn't have Hayes or Najera? ehhhhhhhhhh

Tony Allen got riled up early (got a technical for a foul call when he thought he deserved one the other end). He was simply a handful after that. Very aggressive, hit some difficult, contested shots. He's a talented player that can occasionally light it up like that.

Eddie was just . . . what . . . a House on fire? I didn't pay too much attention to the defense on him because I was mainly checking out our young bigs on defense. I do know that Dooling was going under a lot of screens tonight, though he was always picking up his man full court and making them use time off the clock.

The thing is, the Nets, for as long as I've watched them closely, always give up a lot of 3-point attempts. That's just Frank's defensive philosophy. He's all about paint protection at all costs, and the cost of that against any good team is a 3-point shot. It's one aspect that I think Frank should be more flexible with against certain teams (though I wouldn't have included a Celtics team in that sans Pierce and Allen).

What percentage of the Celtic minutes went to players that were on the team last year, and therefore were familiar with each other? What percentage for the Nets?

How many preseason games have the Celtics played so far? How many have the Nets played?

the nets won the first quarter and played even for the second half. They had a one-quarter meltdown. If the Nets play poorly one out of every four quarters, I'll take it.

I assume that House lit up Dooling, who was playing in his first preseason game. Big deal.

I think what he means is that we didn't have Carter, Harris, Lopez or Yi in there for the last 7 minutes of the game..
Gill,Dooling,Hassell,Swat/Swift isn't going to get it done.
CDR checked back in with a minute and a half to go, so did simmons.

Turn overs were a problem this game but where was the 3 point shooting?

It was at the end of the 4th quarter and the Nets were down like 6 and were coming out of a timeout. The ball is inbound to Swift who took a long 2 point jumper. I was like WTF?? At least go for the 3.

It was simply a case of the Nets not understanding who they were playing. We were playing a version of this team who wanted to take a bunch of 3's and we allowed them too, it was another team with that we had a huge size advantage of and we did not play to that strength defensively. The reason we beat Miami in the previous two games was our closing out on the perimeter and scaring them off the 3 point line for a good portion of the game. Tonight there was a number of blown rotations where Scal, Eddie, Tony, and JR were given plenty of time to get setup behind the line. This is a good kick in the ass game and one where Frank can point to what will happen if you don't come out with the necessary focus and defensive intensity you need.

Vince was so animated during the final seconds of the game, a good thing to see from the leader of the team. He was almost at half court cheering for the team.
