They let Phoenix shoot about 90 wide open 3 pointers, and the team hasn't yet gotten used to each other.

Phoenix is going to compete for the pre-season title, that's for sure!
 
Defense was disaster tonight also the turnovers. The offense side CJ shot the ball well and Dame was good too. Zach had really good stat line 16/7/5/2. He shot 7 free throws made 6 that a good sign for being aggressive.
 
Dammit, I missed this fucking game. And we got blown out by the SUNS?!

I get it, it's preseason, but fuck me.....!

In the back of my mind, I had a fear that this season wouldn't be a good one, due to the new players and Stott's same ol' nonsense.

Reading the last 5 pages of this thread has greatly confirmed my suspicions.

I don't expect them to play like a well-oiled machine yet, but it sounds to me like they are fucking up basic things: poor screens (Whiteside....really, you need to fix that shit), and the usual lack of Defense at the 3 point line.

If we miss the playoffs this year, I expect Stotts to be fired. 8 years of the same old shit is too much, especially if we miss the playoffs. I don't think Jody Allen is going to be as patient as her brother was.

And those that would shout me down....yes yes, I know, it's preseason.....but you can't possibly tell me that you feel good about this.

Its not that I feel good about it, but its preseason and who knows what the heck is going on. Whitesides screens were bothering me but part of that is probably guards going before its set. There is definitely lack of chemistry defensively but I think thats to be expected. Dame definitely hasnt really looked like he cares. Turnovers were a bad tonight too. All in all though its preseason, who knows how the things will go. They got thumped a couple times last year in the pre season.

Curious, why do you think Jody won’t be as patient as Paul?
 
I didn't read the thread but I'm guessing a bunch of you were going a little ballistic about the Blazer defense?...or rather the lack of it. I don't know what was worse, the confusion, the junk rotations on the perimeter, or the poor effort....yuck

yeah, it's pre-season and veterans aren't going to care much about defense...but still..

oh...Dame + CJ + Whiteside combined for 8 assists vs 17 turnovers. That would lose about 87 games in the regular season

It's also the fact that Jody doesn't have the emotional connection to Stotts that Paul did. In fact, besides Dame and CJ, she probably doesn't have a connection with much of anyone on the team, besides Chris McGowan and her Vice-Chairman Bert Kolde. She probably gives two shits about Neil Olshey. Just a guess.

I don't think she's going to be as patient this season, especially with how far we went last season. I think that if we finish with the 6th seed and then lose in the first round, she's going to take notice, and someone is getting fired. That's not something Paul would have done.

The thing is.....Whiteside strikes me as a good half-court guy, and yet it seems like we brought in guys who can stretch the floor and get fast breaks. Whiteside is too slow for that.

So what is our identity? Are we focusing on half-court ball movement, or are we playing the whole court? If we're sticking to a half-court game, then I don't think we'll be taking advantage of Mario's strengths in speed and running the length of the floor.

It's very confusing. What's our identity as a team?
