Notice Preseason Positives and Negatives

….if we win four of our first five games, I see us winning 44 - 47 games.

…..but if we lose four of our first five games, it’s gonna be tough to forecast a 35-win season.

at home vs Kings
at home vs Suns
road game at Clippers
at home vs Grizzlies
at home vs Clippers

Four of our first five are at Home! We should realistically be 4-1 or maybe 3-2 at the end of the first 5. But judging by what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if we wind up 1-4 or 2-3.
Who's the win that you're predicting even at our worst? Because I think all those teams are better than us.

0-0 is not .500 you newb.

0-0 is .000
So we can lose EVERY SINGLE GAME and our record will stay the same! "Hey, at least our record hasn't gotten worse - because math!" we can say after every loss.

I think it's obvious we all want Billups to do well and have great success but there are some posts here that are totally mind boggling on how much some expect out of him? He is just the coach. He will not be suiting up in his 2004 body and playing for the Blazers.

Billups post game interviews. Huge breath of fresh air.
That's interesting. What do you like about them? I don't ever listen/read post game press or notes. Has he been holding people accountable yet? Honest question. Cause I know so many on here were excited for him to do this, saying he as going to.

you do know that Terry Stotts doesn't care if you move on from him being the coach, right?

I'm not, and never have really been a Terry Stott's as our coach fan. But I am a fan, and always have been, of blame being directed where it belongs.

He's not afraid to answer tough questions. For example, Fentress pointedly asked if guys don't pick up his schemes fast enough will he dial things back. He said no, all it means is that he won't able to add the next level of changes till they get the first right.

He's very humble but at the same time confident in what he is doing. Very transparent and seems to know exactly what he wants to do with the team. Calm. Never seems to get defensive.

Agreed that it's not about CJ's height. It's his height, plus lack of wingspan, plus lack of athletic ability, plus lack of effort and sometimes downright laziness, and that part where he seems much more interested in his wine than in making a defensive effort on most nights.

Also agreed about the Warriors. Put 3 of the better 3-pt shooters in the league all on the same roster who are elite in how they create those shots, who also have some length and you have a recipe for breaking that historical data. Then again, the exeption almost proves the rule.
You have to work hard/smart or be a really good athlete to be a solid defender.

Obviously C.J. has to be the former because he won't be the latter, it just seemed like Stotts let everything slide. That's where I'm content with seeing if Chauncey's attention to detail and holding him accountable can get enough out of C.J. to make things work defensively, because I don't think his height/length is a dooming factor defensively.

Shit, with THIS roster, we BETTER beat the Kings right?!?
It's basketball. Teams have good nights and bad nights. Teams will win by double digits one night against a better team and lose by 10 the next to a team they should beat.

One game is one game, but yes, people will put too much importance on opening night.

We let this go on for so long. I don't think a 30 year old terrible defender with a huge guaranteed contract can just turn the switch.

I don't think CJ was as bad last year as people think. I feel like there's a portion of the fanbase that has completely made up their mind on his defense so no matter how he plays on that end, they're still going to think he's trash.

Either way, he has no excuses left this year. We'll see what happens.

There is an old Kevin Costner movie called "Bull Durham". It's baseball but it's not about Baseball really. It's about the things professional athletes go through. Old washed up player taking an up and comer under his wing. He gives the kid flash cards on the correct way to talk to the media. Tells him to say all the right things. He even plans a "Rain Out" by turning the sprinkler system on all night at an opposing field. What happens on the team should stay with the team.
Chaucey Billups will say pretty much the exact same things every coach and player does after every game in the NBA. I don't ever listen either. There is no way he will "Hold People Accountable" in the media. If he starts throwing players under the bus he will quickly lose the team. People on here will never know why a player was pulled in the third quarter or had to come out when they regularly play.

CJ comes up with some very good plays and he does things that control the game at times like a smart foul (Sometimes called dirty). He has quick hands and gets blocks and steals at times.
I agree he isn't always all that bad.

I have still yet to hear from the people who posted all summer about how excited they are that Billups will hold these players accountable. Not a peep. Hopefully we get some feedback once the season starts.

This is all this place is gonna be about this year.

Every thread every day. Calling out people who werent high on the coach.

Some one aught to post 23 wins in every thread everyday…

This is gonna be a loooonnnnng season if this is what the forum is gonna be like….

Almost as bad as reading #FireStotts EVERYDAY last season in EVERY thread. It was a VERY long year.

Fair enough. However i don't recall those people trying to continually call out other people though.
All good.
Heading back to my corner now.

It didn't start that way, but after so many seasons of basically the same thing, yes it had crescendoed to an level that made it a very long year. It was entirely preventable. Stotts should have been gone after the sweep by the Pels. Anything after that was going to be a mute point.....even getting the WCF, because they were such a pretender.

Great points, as long as we realize it wasn’t just Stotts. It was the roster as well. A lot of factors.

The roster that included kanter and melo that some are on blast for, for saying they hurt us?

Absolutely. The roster was/is flawed nad that can't be debated unless your initials are N.O.
But it was Stotts who decided putting Kanter/Melo on the floor at the same time was a good idea. #epicfail

That combo won some games for us down the stretch last season. Sneaked into the playoffs slightly because of that?
