Presidentially Speaking - Three Questions

We're watching Rick Perry announce his Presidential bid. He appears to have successfully led Texas....not entirely sure. Has a certain charisma. Reminds me a bit of Reagan in that regard. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how he matches up against Romney, Bachmann, and the like.

I think he'll be formidable.

I think he'll be formidable.

I think so too, at least in the primaries. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him be the nominee.

But, I think there are some problems with the story for the general election. First, the creation of jobs in Texas has been driven by oil, government, and low-wage jobs. It's still better than losing jobs, but Rick Perry has nothing at all to do with oil prices, government jobs go against his schtick, and flipping burgers isn't the american dream.

Secondly, I think his prayers for rain (unanswered) and for deficit reduction (unanswered) are not going to play well on the big stage. If god had actually granted Rick Perry's wishes, then I'd have to reconsider, but if all he can do is pray unsuccessfully, he's of no use whatsoever.

I might counter be saying this- jobs are jobs. They were created on his watch. That counts whether or not he had anything to do with it- or at least that's the way the system works. As for unanswered prayer, a leader at least prays for the good of his people. Again, I think it counts in the minds of many voters.

THe question I have is how might he do in debates against Obama.

Obama doesn't want to run on his dismal record, so all he can do is play the politics of personal destruction game. Not sure that plays well in debates, but it makes for good reading in barfo's echo chamber.

Just think if the Israelites had employed that same line of thinking following their 6th march around Jericho.
