Lost in this conversation of winning championships is how good Brandon Roy is. With LMA, Outlaw, and Joel backing him up, Roy might be able to carry us to a championship without Oden at all. Our improvement last season and this season has mostly been because of Brandon Roy and how he has developed as a player. If Oden had played last season, everyone probably would've said we went 41-41 because of Greg, but it's actually been all about Brandon Roy, last year and this year. Yes, the team as a whole has improved together, but the main factor has been Brandon.

I really don't like the way the poll is worded. I am not "anti-Oden"...I am HOPING he turns out well, but I am no longer EXPECTING it.

For the record, I also don't think Webster is ever going to be a star, so I guess that makes me a doubly rotten person!

It's not black and white to me. If there were a middle choice, I'd probably go for it, though I'd probably answer: "I'd draft Durant but I also think Oden can be a very effective player for the next decade and is not a bust of a pick."

Oden is the right choice for this team. Time will show that. For those of us that are willing to wait and be patient for both Oden and this team to grow and "bake" it is exciting to know that time will show that Oden was the right choice and that there are going to be a lot of people back tracking and jumping back on the Oden bandwagon. If Roy was out all of next year would fans give up on him? Very very doubtful and those that do are not fans. So why treat Oden any different? You have no way of knowing what the next 10 years will bring with Oden. I hope that Oden really makes all the "haters" look really really silly. And if he doesnt, so be it. It will be disappointing but it will be what it is and to waste time putting negative thoughts into one of "our" players is counter productive and not very "fan" like. As for Durant he is and will be a great great player (who by the way will have injuries just like everyone else) but I still cant help but be worried about how his presence would have hurt the development of Roy and Aldridge (and Batum for that matter) and I think Oden will "fit in" better in the long run. So thats where I stand. If love it or hate I dont care but I know where I stand as a fan of the Portland Trail Blazers who Greg Oden is a member of.

We have seen things from Oden this year that we have not seen since Shaq - he is just so strong and can bounce people off him in the post - to the tune that even D-12 does not seem to - D-12 is fast and strong - but Oden seems to be unmovable even when he is not fast. This is a very rare commodity.

I think we have made the right choice last year, just as I thought when the choice was made. Oden is a difference maker. Durant is a shot maker. Pro-Oden, easily.

I can't really voted on this one. I don't think he is a bust. I believed he would be hampered most of this year by massive fouling issues, so that is not a surprise. But, his abilities on the court are less than I expected. Dare I say, underwhelming?

The other thing I'm concerned about is that the offense seems to get disrupted when he is in the game. He is not in the flow most of the time. While his PER is good, his +/- isn't as good as I'd hoped. For every point he scores (better than Joel), he seems to give up more points than Joel would.

Also, Durant is becoming better than I thought he would be.

Too early to tell still. If the draft were today and I knew all that I know now I would probably pick Durant. Not because of Oden's injuries or foul issues, but because I'm nervous about his ability to cope with the strains of playing in the NBA. If he would have been drafted by NY he would probably be in a comma by now.

Badly written poll. Can't vote.

I reject the premise that there are only two options. The world is not black and white, and neither are opinions.

If loving Oden is wrong I don't want to be right.

poll rocks, sorry y'all can't make a stand on the issues.

Do you truly believe this, or are you just being flippant? Just wondering if it's even worth arguing the point.

Do you honestly not see why these two options aren't the only two options?

what's the third option? "I can't choose a side"? Shit, this is all in good fun, just choose something and we'll bump this later and have a good laugh about it.

To me, Oden is an all or none prospect. he brings us to championship competitiveness or he's a bust. sorry, the hype makes it true.

Like I said, take a stand for something.

How anyone could be anti-Oden at this stage defies all logic...and inteliigence

First, you take a stand on this issue:

A. Babies rock. I want to have 15 of them, all girls, with as many women as possible! I'd LOVE to be on the Shawn Kemp plan of fatherhood!

B. Babies suck. I hate babies and their devious little faces and the way they all want to get you. If a baby were in front of me right now I'd step on her with cleats.

I completely agree with this.

I bought season tickets the year after Portland drafted Roy and LA because I was sure it would be the beginning of a very successful Blazer era. I am more convinced then ever about this.

To me a dominant Oden would be the piece that makes the team unfair, not the piece that makes them a contender.

what's the third option? "I can't choose a side"?

And here's the exact problem. You see it as two sides, not a vast range of opinions.

You don't think it's possible for someone to think Durant should've been the pick at this point, without thinking Oden is a complete bust? Or how about think Durant is an empty stats player and we shouldn't have selected either of them? Or how about just thinking it's too early to make any such decision?

None of those are valid options?

Mostly though I just hate trying to frame an argument as "us against them" as you seem to be trying to do with this poll.

*checks you off for anti-Oden*

;)

Just kidding.

Honk Honk.

Durant should have been the pick. Oden is no Duncan.

Durant / Roy / LMA would have been amazing.

You're right--unfortunately he also seems to have significant difficulty moving himself...

76 votes! y'all lurkers need to post more! that's a lot of peeps!

If you look at the list of poll participants, almost everyone there posts at least occasionally.

I think it's just easy to forget that there are 100+ of us that post regularly...

I think 'neither' would make the most sense, based on the evidence so far.

Is the team better with Greg than without? Absolutely.
Is Greg a total bust? I don't think we have seen enough yet.

Re KD: Durant is a fine player, but even a 10/10/2 (I don't think that's an unrealistic statline for GO) Oden helps the Blazers win more, IMO. Outside of Greg/Joel/Batum, our D is softer than Rebecca Haarlow's cans. Durant is no great shakes as a defender, and would probably only add to the problem.

Based on all the hype coming in, how could any honest Blazer fan say they haven't been at least a little disappointed thus far?

I've been disappointed by three things:

1. His fouls
2. His injuries
3. The amount McMillan plays him when he's healthy and not in foul trouble

If it weren't for those three things, I don't think he'd be disappointing at all. I hold him somewhat responsible for (1), I think (2) has mostly been bad luck. (3) I blame McMillan for. Obviously, he doesn't think Oden merits more time in those games, but I disagree with him.

His on-court play has been very good, IMO. Which is the crux of the matter, as far as I'm concerned. If the injuries really were just bad luck and not signs of constant injuries, then there's nothing to worry about. He'll learn to play without fouling.

If he was terrible when he was on the court, that'd be very bad news.

I guess I haven't been as impressed with him as you ALL THE TIME when he has been on the court. He's been decent to very good, but has really only had a few games I would call 'great'. I know he's been working his way into playing shape most of the season, so that is likely a part of it.

Just trying to be honest/realistic with myself here... I don't know if GO is going to be what I originally hoped- but my expectations for his NBA career were probably under-informed and over-inflated.

I wouldn't say "all the time" either. I just mean, in total. He's been up and down, but his overall level of play has been strong for a rookie center. Considering he still has a huge amount of upside represented in his lack of experience, young age and still-returning athleticism, I'm not too worried.

If he keeps getting hurt or he doesn't keep improving, then I'll be worried.
