In less than 3 months I'm heading out on my Great American Road Trip. I'm planning to stay off the interstates as much as possible. I have a strong feeling this is going to be a very enlightening, if not precarious adventure. Hopefully, sharing a beer with folks after a day on the road will be the bridge to understanding despite maybe not agreeing.......

Then you need to start showing up at SC2 events......Sharing a beer w/someone goes quite far in understanding another persons point of view, from both sides. I agree with this 10000%.

People are mad, and emotional, and they feel helpless, so they're taking out their anger in whatever way they can. Either it's by posting a million threads on a message board, or marching in the streets. And when they encounter someone that represents everything that they're angry about, they focus that rage towards the closest target and it just happened to be these fellows. Does it make it okay? Nope. Does it make them hypocrites? Yes. They're supposedly protesting against hate, and discrimination, and yet they're resorting to violence. Obviously that's not all of them, but I feel as things progressively get worse, we're going to see more violence and more anger and more retribution.
Someone needs to step the fuck up and focus these people.
If you don't like Trump, focus on instilling enough fear in the sitting Congress and Senate that if they don't wrangle him, they will lose their seats. That's your only recourse. Lean on the people who have the power to stop him, because protesting in the streets accomplishes nothing. Literally nothing. All you're doing is costing our local government millions of dollars that we can't afford to spend. It's a short game tactic that offers no actual solutions to the problem. Think bigger. What would Frank Underwood do? He'd destroy this mother fucker from the inside.
Shit, our views are so opposite sometimes we may as well get the Uber fleet on speed dial... LOLThen you need to start showing up at SC2 events......![]()

If nothing else, at least the younger generation "woke up" from their political apathy. Obviously the Democrats (and I think Republicans too or DJT would've never risen to the top of the ticket) need new blood. Maybe this will inspire future leaders to commit to running for office. All these Baby Boomers in power are going to retire and there will be a huge opportunity for these Millenials to step up and shape their future.
Actually, you might honestly be surprised by how much we agree on. It's the "ways and means" thing we don't see eye to eye on......Shit, our views are so opposite sometimes we may as well get the Uber fleet on speed dial... LOL![]()
A little more frequently as the years go by. Do you think the tide will ever turn?Portland has become the most embarrassing city in America
I genuinely appreciate the offer but the three states I'm leaving out are California, Washington and Nevada. Been there, done those plenty of times. Though I'd love to see the boat. I spent most of the 80's and all of the 90's gunkholing in the Puget Sound with a friend on his old 26' Columbia. MarAzul must be awesome!I see you are having a better day. Good! I will be heading out on MarAzul in 2 months or so, down to San Francisco and the Delta for a while. Swing by, I'll buy you a beer, and chat a bit, but those that agree with me are few. If not, have a good run.![]()

gunkholing
I'm afraid to google this.

The dude that got knocked out was screaming "YOU HATE GOD" from inches away, into people's faces with a bullhorn. Does that not constitute a punch in the face? I think it does. Don't scream anything in my face with a fucking bullhorn.
It's unfortunate what this has come to. I was harassed downtown and couldn't figure out why until someone knocked off my had as they were yelling at me. It was a Doernbecher Children's hospital hat.....which happened to be red. The poor ignorant/clueless/hysterically mad idiots took one look at the color and started in on me. It caught me off guard because I had no idea what they were so upset about. Apparently because it was red, they thought it was a Trump Make America Great again and didn't pause 2 seconds to realize the writing on it was for a local children's hospital.
Idiots!

I don't think he checked his privilege and acknowledge that he was an oppressor and part of the patriarchy. Maybe if he did those beasts would give a half assed "srry:/" to him.Did they even apologize?

They did not apologize in the least. When I showed them what the hat actually said, one of them piped up with, "Well, you are probably one of those supporters anyhow." I just walked away because it was obvious there was no discussing of anything remotely rational or objective with these people.
Then I offended a friend of mine who asked a couple of days later if I was going down to protest. I made the mistake of telling him that I had a job and had a lot to get down. I was in no way indicating he didn't have a job (which he does) but just that I didn't have time to march, yell or block traffic. The tirade that ensued probably means we aren't friends anymore. Guess he wasn't very 'tolerant' of my job or 'loving' of my commitment to put food on the table and a roof over my family's heads.
People are losing their fucking minds. Last week I got stalked by a couple of dickheads down by the MAX near my office when I was going to the food carts on SW 10th and it took me pulling a knife to get them to fuck off. They did not apologize in the least. When I showed them what the hat actually said, one of them piped up with, "Well, you are probably one of those supporters anyhow." Yes, and don't you forget it! You're obviously compensating for your alt-right Nazi style facism lolReferring to my minority privilege? Or that it is a privilege to be able to help out sick children with any type of fundraiser possible?
Only the Sith deal in absolutes..It's amazing to me how some of the people who are so worked up about Trump, are so aggressive and angry and violent towards people who are not 100% in line with their thinking.
