OT PSA - here is a dictionary so you guys can look up the meaning of words

I agree, there are several slights here against white.

2,5,6,7,8,10, are all derogatory and/or untrue.

That's straight from the OP's dictionary.

Told you it was a fucking farce.

English was derived from the Romans, in a time when racism was not a "thing".

Roman slavery was not based on ideas of race. Slaves were drawn from all over Europe and the Mediterranean, including Gaul, Hispania, North Africa, Syria, Germany, Britannia, the Balkans, Greece, etc. They didn't care about skin color, but loved having servants. (wiki)

The whole white/light is good and black/dark is bad thing evolved simply from a fear of the unknown, aka nighttime.

This irrational fear of darkness inspired Benjamin Franklin to harness electricity, which we now use to hurl insults at each other over the internet.

Well if I knew my country of origin I'd tell you.

Irish, Italian, English, etc. can all trace their history back past their immigration. They can be referred to as such. That's been stolen from me...

Me...?

Durrett White... From Kentucky...

We both originated here in America, the greatest country on Earth.

While I do know some of the countries my ancestors lived in, I also know of the oppression and discrimination they were fleeing when they escaped to America, and their opinion of the failed cultures they left behind.

Those were their stories, which eventually had happy endings in America.

My story will always just be an American story.

If those labels are divisive constructs, why use them? :dunno:

What's my country of origin?

I'll never know.

So, I must embrace being a black American. I'm not an African American. I'm an American American... We built this muthafucka so I'm planting my flag here. I'll never leave the country we built, instead I'll fight for my equality here. Where I was born.

White people only say African American (most of us HATE this label) because black sounds scary. Smokey Robinson says it best:

So then enslaving blacks only was just a white American thing?

It was an African and European thing.

Africans captured other Africans, then sold them to the British and Dutch slave-traders, who sold them in Europe long before America was born. The British then firmly established slavery in the North and South American continents before the United States of America was even an idea.

In North America, American Indian tribes took slaves from competing tribes before and after Caucasians set foot on the continent.

About half the countries in the world today have active slavery. Most victims are children or women.

Now you're talking like a Real American.

If you've ever designed any passive solar heating, such as a stone floor and wall behind glass, you know the darker the stone the more warmth it will gather and the more warmth it will emit when you need it.

Most of us pasty white people spend every summer trying to get a tan.

Stars shine brightest on the darkest nights.

My favorite times to be in the woods are the twilights before dusk and dawn, when lightness and darkness cross streams.

That dictionary is literally the greatest thing ever.

That may indeed be more truthful than you imagine.
Some taut Guns Germs and Steel that made the level of the playing field, but I expect it was the Oxford Dictionary.
It made the English language the dominate language of the Earth in one at bat. No other language had the equivalent supporting
text.

My favorite times to be in the woods

The deep woods and the sea both give men, at least me a very similar feel, nearly spiritual. You know it when you find it.

I have a place not many step from my back door at my home in Bandon where it can be experienced. Less than the distance to the pitcher mound from the back door, step between two trees, a quarter turn left and two paces forward. Looking over a North facing slope of forest, the sounds change right there, to that place, perhaps a pileated woodpecker or just the silence of the deep woods.

Lies. Nothing but lies. That shit has been debunked... Just like that whole "Irish were slaves too" lie..

Dude you are just a meme at this point.

You're part of the problem. You consistently deny white privilege exists and that a system of oppression exists in this country.

Why the fuck are you even in the discussion at this point? So no worries, you're not the right person to even be talking about this.

I think it's hilarious how there are white people that never experience racism that act like they're so versed and knowledgeable about it.

Y'all know nothing.

So you and I never need to engage in this discussion again.

I find it ridiculous that you're raging about the word black meaning bad, when the history of the black knight dates back to medieval times (well before slavery in America).

@dviss1 I find it interesting that the term "African American" is frowned upon in the black community. I always use it. I cringe when people say "black" though, and I'm not sure why. So I try and limit the usage. So to be clear, it's less offensive to use the term "Black" than to use the term "African American," generally speaking? I had no idea.

African American never should have become a thing. It assumes that all black people are A) from Africa originally and B) American.

We see this play out when American journalists interview black people from England and still call them African American.

This happens? Wow.

i have always said black, that being said, sometimes its frowned upon. if that happens just apologize and leave town.

After Epic Beard Man on youtube years ago I really hoped "pinky" would catch on. Much more accurate.

I still say "he leaking" when I see someone bleeding.

I’m not reading all this or what even lead to it... but isn’t it kinda weird that “white” people aren’t truly white and “black” people aren’t truly black?

Everyone’s a shade of tan or brown. I don’t think those words will change any time soon, but they do carry different connotations with stark differences in terms of being positive or negative.

In a dictionary thread and you use the wrong term....

It's cracka ass cracka..jeeez
People from Georgia are known as crackers. My mom's side of the family is all from Georgia. I was born in Georgia.
Although raised here, I don't mind being called a cracker.
My wife tried calling me honky in private but she was terribly uncomfortable with it and quit doing so after about half a day.
Now, it's honey, which translates to "Get your ass over here and take out the damn garbage, mister."
