OT Question about Whiteside

Whiteside does look lazy/disinterested on offense sometimes. He doesn't seem happy in Miami. Still not an excuse to be lazy/disinterested though.

However, I think it was Webber that said something like this. "Now that the offense is flowing side to side a little more, whiteside is getting some looks" then he said something about how Miamis offense usually doesn't do that. For whatever that's worth.

Just spitballin' here:

Whiteside/Plums
R. Anderson/Davis
Aminu/Crabbe
CJ/Hendo
Lillard/CJ

I didn't get to watch the second half! The box score doesn't seem too promising for him lol.

Whiteside would play half the game for us. He would be an expensive part of a center by committee. I would love to get him on the cheap, but that won't happen.

Well a plus side is that hes a freak physically. I feel like he could develop at least 1 go to post move if he had a good coach. I'm assuming he works with juan, bosh, and amare at least a little bit. But who knows.

I think a good comparison is deandre jordan. But whiteside is a better shooter than him. I think he's not good offensively because he's been trying to find a spot on a team for so long, he's only felt comfortable doing what comes natural to him.

Signing Whiteside would be one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history. The dudes has a negative impact on a team and the stats back that up. He's a bad locker room presence too. So the scenarios you guys post with him in it are all bad.

Thing is, I think Noah Vonleh is already a physical beast...he has something a whole lot of bigs lack....huge lower body strength. . the dude is a rock...Whiteside might be the next Jordan or the next JJ Hickson...time will tell

Do you watch heat games?

I was actually thinking something similar. JJ Hickson was never getting triple doubles with blocks though

Considering some of the trail blazers decisions in the past... you think "one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history" might be a bit of an exaggeration?

Yes, that's how bad of a decision it'd be

You're equating good rim protection with blocks. That's your mistake. Read a good post by someone earlier in the thread (Page 1 or 2) which explains why Whiteside isn't a good rim protecter... I don't got the time to explain it right now.

Whiteside is actually a really good rim protector...when he's at the rim. He's kind of inexperienced and/or lazy though and is often caught out of position.

I'd let someone else deal with him.

He goes for every block even when he's way out of position, which is a lot. So unless he gets a block, he's giving up an easy dump pass, offensive board, or is to out of position to contest anyway. So hypothetically lets say there's 20 drives on him during a game. He'll get 3 or 4 blocks (a good average), but he'll also giveup 13 or 14 layups due to this.

No, I watch his games. You dont. That's what I was proving. Apparently you don't have time to watch games either.

If you don't watch someone play a full game of basketball, your opinion is complete bullshit. So watch a few games, then say something.

I've been all about throwing a max at Whiteside, but reading more about him and how MIA has benched him, he seems like a punk. If he can't be corrected in that environment with Wade/Bosh/Spo/Riley, what will he do when Dame and Neil are the only ones to set him in line?

Maybe we stay away. So much game, but he's a headcase. I didn't like how he went after Boban yesterday.

Yeah, I've been hearing way too many negative things about him. Rather go after Ezeli.

I'd avoid Whiteside. We don't have any knuckleheads and that's a big reason our team is developing and playing so well. That Miami team should be the #2 seed in the East; his play is a giant red flag. There have been many examples of these types of players in the past; the overwhelming majority don't figure it out. Those who do definitely don't figure it out when they are handed their first massive dollar guaranteed contract.

I'd rather get players whose contributions seem to exceed their stats than guys who's stats seem to exceed their contributions.

Wade said this about Whiteside... "We're all supposed to be in here for one common goal, and sometimes we don't know what he's thinking"

Ouch

Whiteside free throw % up to 60%
He's also one of the best finishers at the rim in the league (looking for the article). And he's learning to play more effective defense. He might be a little rasheed wallace-like at times with his emotions. But I'm pretty sure being on a team like ours, would help him calm down and play better basketball.

We definitely could've used a shot blocking, high percentage finisher tonight.

A team like ours? He's playing alongside Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Luol Deng. Has Pat Riley in his front office. If he needs something BEYOND that to buy in, well....
