My logic test:

GIVEN: All whistles are blown based on advantage gained...

Step 1: Determine Advantage Gained
-Does the player gain an advantage by breaking the letter of the rule?

In a situation like posting up, shuffling the feet or switching pivot feet is a HUGE advantage because it negates the defensive player's positional work.
In a situation like a contested fast break, traveling gives advantage because the player's got the ball held tight so as not to get stolen from the defender.
In an uncontested fast break dunk, the player gains no advantage from not dribbling. They still have to jump and not hit the rim. That part happens regardless.

Step 2: Blow the whistle as needed (or if you're a fan, freak the fuck out at the missed call)

In this case, I choose not to freak the fuck out, because no advantage was gained.

I'm not a moron or a monster; blown goaltending, out of bounds, and advantage-gained violations piss me off. But I choose not to care about traveling on an uncontested dunk, because logically, it doesn't matter. I'm talking about "no defender on that side of the court, dude's all alone dunking" situations.

How does logically it doesn't matter? IT'S TWO POINTS. YOU GAINED A TWO POINT ADVANTAGE. That's logic in a nutshell. All those other ones are gaining an advantage for an OPPORTUNITY of 2 (or 3) points... the one you DONT get mad about is an almost surefire way to get points? That doesn't make any sense...

How does 2 pts relate to a traveling turnover? Then it's NOT 2 pts..now that doesn't make any sense to me unless I've misunderstood your point here

You did. If you don't call the player for GAINING AN ADVANTAGE... then they get 2 points they otherwise should have been negated. Getting points is of the UTMOST advantage.

This is a travel anytime....expect with NBA referees.

All whistles aren't blown for advantage disadvantage. There are black and white calls. If you step on the line it's out no matter what. 3 steps in high school or college is traveling. Black and white.

I'm not gonna worry about it even if I am wrong. Please remember we are arguing about MY OPINION of a rule.

True; I should have said:

GIVEN: Refs only blow whistles if they see the violation AND give a shit about it.

Black and White doesnt have qualifiers.
Reality is not black and white. The cognitive dissonance between what I think is right and reality is what makes me angry. One method not to be angry at basketball is not to care about that dissonance anymore.

There are black and white calls and There are gray area calls. Out of bounds, over and back, illegal dribble, 8second violation etc. are all black and white calls that don't require qualifiers.

I think we've seen tonight that out of bounds is an interpretive call. :ghoti:

No. What we've seen tonight are just horrible calls.

As opposed to all those other games when the refs don't do stupid shit like that? Like you've implied before, the NBA is refer very poorly, based on judgment calls and reputations.
