Quick calls out Olshey

Haynes on a twitter space chat:

"I don't know how you could say Olshey didn't have a big factor in wasting Dame's prime."

Very interesting to listen to him speak so candid

Quick was slower than most to realize this was more of a roster issue than a coaching issue. Quick seemed to be keeping his source in the front office open until he knew Olshey was no longer helpful to him.

Chris Haynes just said on a twitter space that some players knew he was gone before yesterdays game. Quick likely knew this when he sent out his tweet last night and wrote this article.
This is a roster issue because some guys don't care enough to do what they need to do to win. Wouldn't have figured that out without firing Stotts. Win-win.

Plenty of people knew it was a roster, not coaching issue prior to any coaching change; it was fairly obvious. This is not a caring issue, or a Billups/Stotts issue, it's a pure talent/roster construction issue.

Still don't think it's as much of a talent issue as you guys think. When this team plays bought in and focused they've had some really good defensive games, and that's the only thing holding this team back. So many of their defensive mistakes are due to a lack of effort or focus, but Chauncey's trying to get them to play the right way which is more than I could ever say for Stotts.

This isn't a shot at you, but people use "effort" when they don't have anything of substance to point at. We rarely if ever point at the opponents effort as reasons for our wins, but so often blame effort for our loses. That right there should tell you it's not a valid reason.

A lot of this teams defensive problems have to do with the opposing guards blowing past our guards and everyone scrambling to try and compensate for their blown coverage which routinely leads to open 3’s which our perimeter defenders aren’t long enough to close out on.

that's a good point and I think it's accurate

Dame-CJ-Powell-Simons. Three bad defenders & one average . All four 6'3 and under. Until Dame's 'rest', they combined for over half of all Portland minutes. Portland's defense suffers because of this. Scheme won't fix it; effort won't fix it. At best, scheme & effort would be band-aids, but band-aids wear out and fall off. This is a roster problem

WTF does he even mean with this statement? :bwpopcorn:

Clearly Neil called Quick yesterday - suddenly he’s showing sympathy…

Woj, Dwight, and Quick keeping their source alive in case it's needed in the future.

Who cares though? If they want to fire him they can fire him... Seems pretty simple.

This is basically how I feel. Selfishly, I'd like all the information about the Billups and Olshey investigation, but at the end of the day, realize I'm owed nothing and they can hire/fire whoever they want.

"Neil was given opportunities to trade for a star, but he was scared they might be a rental and leave. They should've allowed Dame to be around that star player to be around Dame for a year. (Olshey) never gave Dame that opportunity."
most likely talking about George here? or Leonard?

I think he meant to say "deafening". not "defeating". I think he is calling out the hypocrisy of those who cried out for transparency in the Billups investigation but don't give a shit about lack of transparency in Olshey firing.

Good question. Haynes certainly did not imply any names specifically. I would guess PG13.
I'm thinking Jimmy Butler.

I don't see KP dealing with us. One of his kids posted or liked some tweet to that affect too back then.

Not sure why Neil was such a coward. Grow a pair you arrogant fuck.

Haynes on a twitter space chat:

"The Olshey situation played a role in McGowan leaving. He wanted a structure in the organization and wanted himself (McGowan) to control more of the public narrative."

"I don't give him credit for drafting Damian Lillard."

"Dame has NEVER had a title contending team around him. NEVER HAS"

"Neil was given opportunities to trade for a star, but he was scared they might be a rental and leave. They should've allowed Dame to be around that star player to be around Dame for a year. (Olshey) never gave Dame that opportunity."

"Neil was afraid to take a bold swing because if it fails, you have to look at yourself. He only made fringe moves."
I'm always ready to think ill of Olshey, but I believe Haynes about as far as I can throw him, and I believe he has actual inside info even less.

If Dame knew and wanted the trade, it would have happened. If that's the case, it not happening is not Olshey's fault.

Accordingly to Haynes, Olshey knew if he made a big move and it failed, it could cost him his job, and he was more worried about his own job security than taking a swing. That seems perfectly in line with 9 years of transactions he made.

If Olshey was working for Dame, then we should've got rid of Olshey a long time ago. If our GM only takes marching orders from Dame, might as well have someone who is likable, does interviews, doesn't talk down to everyone, etc.

Butler was traded for Covington, Bayless, Saric and a future 2nd rounder with one year left on his deal. That wasn't a ton at that time.
